Your expertise or experience is required!

Has anyone installed, or know if it is possibe to install (and work of coarse) with the appropriate bracket an Invacom QPH-031 LNB on a large dish, say 2.4M, 3.1M etc. (solid dish, not mesh)? Presently I have a 1.2M Fortec Star with the mentioned LNB, but want to upgrade to a larger solid dish. My interest is Ku-band.

Thank You!

The issue I've read is that the LNBF you're looking at is for use on an offset dish.
Now, once you get that large a size (8 foot to 10 foot) these are now a prime focus type dish - you need a different LNBF.
They are made but I dont think the sponsor here sells them.

Please explain to me (in physics) why the LNBF for an offset dish is electrically not compatible with a prime focus dish. I believe that the poster only needs an adapter plate to properly place the LNBF at the focal point and physically adjust the phase angle.

For whatever it's worth, I have a 1m prime focus dish that came with an lnbf holder that would support this poster's requirement.

It's also noteworthy that I'm using a dish designed for Ku-band with an S-band LNBF. All that had to be done is change the lengths of the support legs to correctly position the lnbf at the focal point.

I'm only passing along some of the comments "I read"... even on this board. From what I remember it had to so with the way the LNBF illuminates the face of the dish. A lnbf designed for offset is purported to not be as good as one as designed for the correct dish type.

So thinking the way a camera operates, you;ve moved the camera back & forth to get a "focus", but now the angle of the lens either over the edges of the disk - or not enough (it doesn't see the whole dish).

The above is what I've inferred from reading other's comments.
Most of the references were guys in Mexico or Bahamas or Brazil asking about how to use Dish Network LNBF's on 8 foot dishes to steal Dish NEtwork signals - and the trouble they were having do so.

And now some speculation from me - maybe the dish is now too parabolic in shape to effectivley focus correctly on an offset LBNF to fully illimuminte the LNB.

With that all said do I have any practical and physical experience putting these together? no. Would I try it to see if it works? Absolutely!
