considering fta in south florida

Maybe a stupid question: I'm considering exploring fta in south florida..but I'd like to know which satellites and unencrypted programming I'd be able to receive from here. particularly interested in german and israeli/hebrew programming, but international (non-english) programming generally. also maybe nbc, fox, etc. from other timezones if i forget to record my favorite show ;-) thanks

I have a 30in. dish and could receive IA5 (Galaxy25) ok.
I'm in Port Saint Lucie
The bigger the dish you have, the more choices you have.
Be careful, you might just catch the sat bug, and you'll want bigger
and bigger dishes.

here, some sites that have info:
North & South America - LyngSat
FTAList.com - Lists by Language

You should have quite a large area of the arc available to you from FL. If you check LyngSat - Lyngemark Satellite and look for the 5 digit tp freqs (Ku) from 148 to around 30 (Sat longitudes) just about all is available to you. The channels receivable will be indicated with DVB combined with F. If you want to go with a C Band dish you can receive the channels with the 4 digit tp freqs

one last thing

It is vital that you survey your property for the optimal site to install a dish. Go to the installation portion of Sadoun's site, and there you will find all the angles that you need. I live in Tampa and it is difficult to find an open spot with a clear sweep of the southern sky. Besides the tall trees, there are neighbor's houses on both sides, and limits of the cable length.

I have a directv setup that does well, despite some utility poles along the southern end of the property. Hopefully I won't run into any of these poles being directly in the path of a bird I want to receive. Thanks.

Direct TV is a stationary system. If you get one with a motor to hit "all the birds", just make sure you have an unobstructed view. Are you planning to get a motor setup? I would recommend it since it really expands your viewing options.

Yes, I would probably go motorized. I am pretty sure that from the edge of my roof where the DTV dish is now I have a clear shot of the southern sky at 60degrees. tonight i'll check for sure.

A roof mount with a motor will be even more tricky to install than one on the ground. You will have to put holes in your wall/roof . At the same time, you will have to get your mast plumb. Hopefully, you have a well-built house that doesn't have any "give" when you mount a dish with motor that's about 35- 40 lbs.

Hmm..Did not know the motor was so heavy..thanks. The walls are concrete block. Can I put the dish/motor on a pole supported by brackets "tapconned" to the wall?
