Correct, but an additional comment.
Most analog/DCII subscription receivers like the 4dtv and receivers with VCII stay on when you turn them off, ie you'll still get power to the LNB, and initially it will keep the same polarity. However the problem is that these receivers will try to tune to a subscription channel whenever you turn it off. I know if I turn off my Drake 1824, and am on a satellite which doesn't have a VCII channel, after I turn it off, it will stay on the channel (ie polarity) that I left it on for a while, but after several minutes it will start a search, changing channels, looking for a VCII channel. If you were tuning a FTA channel on your slaved
Mercury, it would work OK for a while, then it would start going on and off as it changed polarity. Actually, I think with the 4DTV, it might even try to change satellites.
So yes, leave it on. You're not saving any power since it is really still on when turned off anyway.
