AMOS 2 Question

I am using a Fortec classic NA reciever with a Fortec 80cm dish from LAT 42 LONG 80 (Lake Erie) area. What are my chances of getting AMOS 2 with this dish size? Also, is there a site I can go to that will give a footprint of the birds and a recommened dish size for the footprint? I am interested in the Russian/Ukrainian channels.

And yes I am a newbie to the FTA world.

this thing shows there's signal available.

But wow - 4 deg is quite low on the horizon. You might need a tower to get the dish high enough, in order to point low enough.

I've not heard of anyone getting this one in the time I've been hanging around here.

My program gives even lower elevation for 42/80 . I get 1.6 deg. That plus the fact that Lyngsat doesn't list ANY transponder using the US Beam, means that there is zero chance to pick up anything listed on Lyngsat. That doesn't rule out the possibility that there might be a transponder that people haven't found yet. I know of a sat that has some transponders that aren't listed in Lyngsat. However I don't think I've ever picked up a sat that was less than 7 or 8 degrees elevation, even with a big dish, and with an 80 CM dish, I think I wouldn't even bother trying. Even if you "tried", you wouldn't know what freq to look for, because no-body has found a US transponder yet.

I just assume it was a typo on the 127 since galaxy 10 and g10r are the same sat.

Well there "WAS" a Galaxy 10, but apparently it exploded while being launched, so Galaxy 10r was it's replacement.

In general, the "r" sats are "replacements" (at least in TVRO nomenclature). I was confused because I didn't remember there ever being a Galaxy 10, so I just looked it up. All the TVRO sats that ever made it to orbit are still up there.

I have to watch myself with you guys. The 4DTV does 2 digit names which is why I usually just use location. G10R in the Motorola is G0 for C and X0 for the Ku side. Since they are not (to my knowledge) renamable in the Motorola I actually rename them in the Fortec to match the 4DTV. Makes it easier when using that dish with the Fortec. Pick a channel on M5 (SatMex5) pop over to the Motorola and drive to M5. Back to the Fortec. Signal? If no up one channel on the Motorola and away we go.

All sats that are watched via the 90cm I leave named as Fortec has them as it really does not matter. This way I know when I see a 2 digit name in the Fortec that I need to tune using the Motorola for that sat. Why I went down this whole explanation I have no idea

Well if you want a discussion of sat names that aren't current, right now, my Drake has the following programmed on C-band:
C4,G1,C3,T7,G9,G5,G8,E8,M2,E1,E2,S2,F9,S4,G4,T1,G3 ,T6,G7,T4,S3,F2,G2,
S6,F6,S9,A5,A6
and on Ku it has...
T7,G8,K2,T9,E1,E3,K1,K4,K9,T1,T6,G7,T8,K8,K5,K7,B6 ,G6,K3,T4,K6,A5

Only a handfull of these are the correct designations. Some are designations for sats that used to be there, and some are just other names I used when the available designations didn't fit new sats. Some are old sats I deleted and then re-used for newer sats. Recently I ran into the problem that I've run out of memory, and can't assign any new names, so I've had to delete some names I've used for sats over the Atlantic that I can't see anymore due to trees, etc. Anyway, it's amazing that I can remember what at least the C-band sats are, but the Ku sats, half the time I don't have a clue, I have to go to the C-band and then switch bands.

Anyway, being limited to designations that don't relate to the current sat names isn't limited to just 4DTV users, in fact they have more flexibility than most analog receivers.
