March 2006
Announcement by the Croatian Information Center Regarding HIC’s Satellite Program.
The Croatian Information Center has temporarily stopped broadcasting the HIC satellite TV program for the United States and Canada as of February 28 2006. We began broadcasting our program on December 23 2003 and broadcasting has been continuous throughout the entire period.
The basic reason for the temporary stop to program broadcasting is insufficient protection (coding) of the signal, which GlobeCast has failed to implement on time. Therefore, we found ourselves in a difficult and unfavorable position with regard to the collection of subscription fees, which were inadequate to finance the program.
The Croatian Information Center is an independent, non-government and non-political organization whose only revenues are those from subscription fees and donations.
We hope that these technical problems will soon be resolved and that we will be back together with you in a short while. Until that time, we can keep in touch thanks to the 24-hour Hrvatski Narodni radio program, brought to you by the Croatian Information Center and Narodni radio.
Sincere Regards,
HIC Management

Ožujak 2006.
Objava Hrvatskog informativnog centra o satelitskom programu HIC-a
Uz pozdrav do ponovnog i skorog viđenja,
Uprava HIC-a

I understand that brodcasting the signal cost money, but asking for coding of signal for programming like this is ridiculous. Programming HIC has to offer should be free. I understand HTV programming being scrambled since they show movies, sports, etc. HIC however benefits more from being FTA and offereing Croatian people in diaspora a free way too keep in touch with their homeland.
Just my 2 cents.
Scratch that. I missed the "The Croatian Information Center is an independent, non-government and non-political organization whose only revenues are those from subscription fees and donations." in the post
I thought it was a goverment founded entity. I can see why they would want a subscription.
