MPEG4 means more FTA channels

When MPEG4 is available, more than a 150 Arabic FTA channels and 100s of European channels are anxious to enter the North American market. All of that because of the lower costs of satellite bandwidth.

MPEG4 gives you DVD quality picture using the same bandwidth as MPEG2. However, with the same picture quality of MPEG2 picture, you can fit more channels in the same bandwith using MPEG4. Thus, the lower cost per channel.

I suspect 2006 going to be a very exciting year for this hobby.

Just the receiver i d guess .. or suppose...

On the technical side though, anyone knows about encryption(s) technicality when it will come to Mpeg 4 .. Will all the encryptions be kinda the same.. or whole new encryptions and the way they are will be required?

(kinda vague question i guess, lol) :mozilla_oops:

Same Dish and LNBF. You will need a new receiver. But that will not happen all of a sudden. It will be a gradual transition and may take a few years. Do your existing MPEG2 receiver will continue to be utilized for a few more years along with the MPEG4 receiver.

Kind of like the HDTV transition. As you can see HD is not widespread yet.
