I went to this website, Free HD DVR ViP622 from Dish Network - No Rebates - PVR Wire, just to read up on it a little bit more and to no surprise it looks like this is for new costumers only. I'm hoping that somehow DN will give us the same opportunity. Maybe DT will offer the same thing. Anyone out there know more about this offer?

Isnt this really a "rental?" I mean after you cancel their service, dont they take back the DVR, receiver, and LNB?

That is what DN normally do. I will let you know when I terminate my subscription this month.

Really?
I remember a long time ago (5 years?) when I subscribed to direct tv (not DN) and after my one year contract was over, I disconnected and they didnt say anything about the basic receiver or dish, so I just kept 'em .... hehe...
I wonder if direct tv is taking back their receivers and LNBs (and maybe dish) as well?

I will check on this, but I think the offer is for new customers with contract. This will start 2/1/07. The unit will be offered to new customers on a lease basis and must be returned when service is terminated.

I was told that VIP622 will be free for new customers only. It will be available for existing customers for low price with a new contract and Q1 programming which will be increased ($5/month and 20 more channels)
Dishnetwork is also introducing a DVR basic package with locals for $49.99/month. They will also have new dish for HD which will be little bit bigger than dish 1000. It will be called dish 1000.2 and it will have 3 ports out, so there will be no need for switch in most cases. HD 222 is also coming, which is an HD dual tuner receiver (HD TV1 and standard TV2).

I think it's misleading on Dish and DTV's part to advertise, "Free DVRs or receivers in four rooms, nothing to buy," when it fact you're charged for leasing those receivers...
People should simply buy those receivers on their own and subscribe normall w/o the leasing fee... even at $5/month lease, at the end of one year, 5 x 12 = $60 lease fee...sheez...

be 236,
I believe even if you purchase the equipment outright there is a fee for the second feed on your DVR. They are going to get you one way or another. The only way to get a break, if can call it that, is by getting DN most expensive package they have. They would waive the Local station and and second line hookup fees on all your DVRs. What a deal!

What? Really?
That's a rip-off.. Are you saying if I buy my equipment separate (dish, lnb, receivers, etc) that I still need to pay DN or DTV a "leasing" fee? That's so ridiculous... sheez...

No, you don't pay lease fee, if you buy our own receiver(s).
You pay only "2nd" receiver fee $5 (no fee with only one receiver), and if it's DVR, $5.98 DVR fee.
Not sure about
Also, they leave the dish and LNB alone after contract termination, you return receiver (only if it's leased, of course).

Wait... so if I buy and use TWO of my own receivers, I am still charged this "2nd receiver" fee of $5 monthly???
Also, I read in another forum/site that Dish is now requiring the customer to return the LNB as well! d'oh...
