dish 1000 and 811 reciever

I just installed my dish 1000 and would like to know if i can aim this thing to get the fix on the satelites or will i have to use a meter. also if i can do it by trial and error what direction in degrees can i start pointing in. ( i am using a compass) Thanks.

Your dish 1000 Installation Instructions give you the dish pointing angles on pages 8-12. This is pretty close. If you have your receiver connected you can use that as your meter. Of course you will need help.

If you are replacing your dish (500-300) mark the position before removing it; leave the old mast in place; 119 should line rite up, it did for me. Also if your receiver is connected go to point dish; type in zip code and it will give you the Azimuth, Elevation and Skew.
