Dish 721 with DPP Separator vs. two line feed

Hi All,
I just received a replacement 721 receiver for one that failed. I have been unable to check switch or at least come up with the same check switch on both sat 1 and 2 ether dual feeds 1-4 or single feed with separator 1-28.

DishNetwork Tech tells me that the 721 will not work with a DPP 44 switch and a DPP Separator, he could not understand how I got it to work in the first place. he insisted that because the 721 is only Dish Pro it will not work in a Dish Pro Plus Configuration.

My other 721 worked from day one on a single feed and DPP separator.

So my question is: What gives?

Help PLEASE!!!!!

It may have something to do with upgraded software. I personally haven't been able to use any DPP equipment with DP. As much of a pain as it might be if you have the available port on the DP 44 switch I would run an additional coax. The only other possibility is you received another defective receiver. I would run another wire for a test lead off the switch and run another switch test

Thanks for your reply.
I have run so many check switch and always no go. Different results but no matched results on 1 and 2. The receiver has the latest software (L177)
but it will not run a sucessful check switch using Separator. When a check switch is run using two leads off the switch it drops the duplicates and check switch fails.

there's always a possiblity of them sending you a defective receiver. Call Dish Network "so-called" tech line and explain you ran 2 seperate leads from the switch and still have problems with both sides receiving signal and see what they say. They may send you another replacement. You may also want to look into the Dishin It Up program and get a new 622 if they're available in your area

721 is a DPP receiver. Meaning that it works with DPP (DP plus) products.

The receiver may need a newer software to work with the DP44+ switch. To get the new version to download, here is what you need to do.

Get one line from port 1 of the switch. Connect that line to DP splitter. Connect the outcoming 2 lines to dish 1 and dish 2 in the back of the receiver. Turn the receiver OFF for about 20 min. then back on. The receiver should have the new software. Remove the splitter and connect the separator as before. Run check switch again. That should take care of the problem.

Please make sure that the switch power insert is connected.

If that did not work, then it's something else. You may have a bad receiver, problem with connectors or problem with cable.
Good Luck.

Thanks All,
Well, problem solved. As stated before, Dish Tech support INSISTED what I was trying to do was impossible becausethe 721 was only DP and not DPP compatible. Of course I have all kinds of documentation to prove other wise.(L177, 9-16-05; DPP Twin support) The dish tech said that my set-up was all wrong and that is why they no longer allow customer installs. He said I should have an installer inspect my system.

I contacted an installer and explained what I had and what the Dish Tech told me. He said Dish always says contact them. This is because the 721 is old Technology and the Dish Techs just are not up to speed. He suggested that I may have been sent a bad replacement.

I questioned him about software up-grades and using a DP splitter to down load any up-grades. He said that was not necessary BUT mentioned reversing the DPP Separator; 1-2 and 2-1.
GUESS WHAT? Switch check all green and up and running. “Imagine That” :mozilla_sealed:
