HiDef closed Captioning

My girlfriend is hearing impaired. I bought her a Dish 942 in December 05 (two months ago) and subscribed to the standard HD (5 channels) and VOOM (10 channels). WE HAVE NEVER SEEN ANY OF THEM PROVIDE CLOSED CAPTIONING. In particular we were hoping to watch Discovery, Equator, and 24 Hour News. What a disappointment with Dish Network. Does anyone know why these are not being broadcast in CC all the time??? or at all???

Also a few weeks ago we learned that the $650 we spent in Dec. to own a 942 was just thrown away. According to the Dish Promotion, verified by their Corporate Office is that We have to send our 942 and another $100 to Dish to receive the MPEG4 Dish 622 and then we don't own it, but get to lease it for another monthly fee. I guess we'll just drop back and buy a 625 and sell the 942 on eBay. Any thoughts on any better Dish Promotions?

Did you make sure that the CC is turned on, on the receiver?

Dishnetwork now has different packages for HD. NEW RECEIVERs cause the 942 and 811 prices to drop.

YEP - Closed caption is turned on - on the receiver for both analog and digital CC. Just like my DirecTV H10-250. DirecTV does not seem to transmit CC either on its standard HD. On DirecTV, CC in HiDef only appears to be available on HBO & Showtime. So even when we are at my house, we have to watch Discovery on Analog.

Doesn't the 1994 Law requiring CC apply to HiDef???

Here's another good one. If you call Dish to turn off Hi Def programming for your 942 to save $10 because we can't use it without CC on HiDef, Dish then charges you $6 per month for using a HiDef receiver without HiDef turned on. AND because the 942 is "grandfathered" on its current HiDef programming, if you turn HiDef off, then you can NEVER get HiDef programming back onto that same 942 receiver without paying for the trade-in for a leased receiver. Is't Dish progress wonderful ?

Does anyone know if D-TV will add the technology to allow a dual tuner receiver to use one coax and a separator?

I heard that Dishnetwork will offer $200 rebate on some new HD receiver upgrade in April. So it's worth the wait.
