Dish has several channels FTA - including the music channels. I would actually benefit from a switch that would work to combine the dpTwin (or I dpQuad) with normal FTA equipment and switches between them well. I was thinking that you can't just put a diseqc in there because of the switching mechanisms that are used in the dishpro devices. Since there is an old unused dish500 on my house, that would give me one more "permanent" location that doesn't require constant motoring back and forth to receive music (currently, if someone downstairs is watching TV on the FTA equipment, I can't reposition the dish to pickup music in my office)

This should be easy to do. I used to have a similar setup with an old single sat DTV dish that I'd switch in to listen to some unencrypted audio from time to time. I also for a while did a similar thing with a 3 sat DTV dish. I can't keep up with all the various types of Dishnet systems, but if your dish 500 is one of those where you can get access to the individual lnbfs, I would just run a cable straight from the lnbf with the music channel you want, and bypass any dishnet switches that might be confused by the diseqc signals. If I wanted music for an office, I'd just run this straight into a Twinhan 1020a in the computer, and you can have all sorts of music playing in the background while working.

Yeah, the problem with the dishpro lnbf is that the switches are built-in and cannot be bypassed. The problem with running a 2nd line to the office is that it would require routing cabling under the siding around half the house (2 story - 20 ft off the ground) and drilling another hole through siding/brick/etc .. ick Maybe I can find an old non-pro lnb to swap onto the dish500 in order to ease this situation :/

For the asian fta channels you will need a linear lnb on an 80cm dish or larger. Best sollution for watching both DNW and FTA is to run seperate lines one from the Dish 500 to your DNW receiver and one from your 80cm Dish to your FTA receiver. Connect both receivers to different inputs on your TV.

Are you sure about that? I've heard that that input LNB on the DPP is used for another Dish LNB, not FTA LNB... I'm not clear on this issue...

I agree with the wiz kid, the input is for another DP of DPP LNB. But I will try a legacy on the input @ 61.5 this weekend and see. Interesting question????????

dn lnb's and switches in a nutshell
the dp plus lnb supports only dp lnb's for the input,
a legacy twin and a legacy dual could be combined with a sw21 switch or the 4x1 diseqc switch (these come with most stb's)
dish makes a dp 21 or dp 34 switch which will work with a dp twin or quad and a dp single/dual
legacy lnbs are compatible with d_tv lnbs as well,
and will work with diseqc 4x1 switch
dpp lnbs use mhz range 950 to 1450 for odd and even transponders
and a second full signal from 1650-2150 for odd and even.
they are primarily used for dn dual tunners using a single cable penetration.
the dp lnbs use 950-1450 odd transponders only
and 1650-2150 even transponders only.
The input of the dpp lnb can "upconvert" the dp dual to the full set of signals in oth mhz ranges and pass them all in one cable.
The dpp does have 2 out ports...
the legacy lnbs use only the lower mhz rqange 950-1450 odd and even.
when any lnb is connected to an external switch, the internal switch gets put in default mode, each port send a single sat signal to be combined by the external switch.
a dp twin hitting 110,119 have both sat signals coming out both ports.
when you use a dp34 switch, the 1st port has only 119
the second port has only 110.
if you use a diseqc 4x1 switch you need legacy lnbs and they combine the signals of up to 4 sats.
Hope this helps.
