How broadband internet via satellite works?

What is Internet satellite service?

If you live in a rural area or in an area that does not have access to DSL or cable Internet access, then internet via satellite is your only choice for broadband internet access. Satellite is a lot quicker and less expensive to hook up because it doesn't have the same infrastructure requirements. With speeds of ten to twenty times a normal dialup account, the download of information from the Internet to your computer goes from the satellite direct to your PC. The upload of information from your computer to the Internet goes first via an existing phone line to an ISP provider.

Equipment needed for this kind of service will be a PCI DVB receiver (sush as our Twinhan 1022A) or a USB solution such as our STARBOX, a 30: dish, and a linear LNBF (such as the Fortec Star universal LNBF FSKUv).

How the process works?
1- Customer makes information request to Internet via modem to ISP main processing center.

2- The information request is then sent to Internet via ISP Internet backbone connection.

3- The request then travels via the Internet to requested Web site.

4- The requested Web site information is sent to the Data Routing Uplink Center and NOT back to ISP.

5- The requested Web site information is uplinked to the satellite.

6- The requested Web site information is received by satellite reception equipment installed at customer's home.

Sadoun Satellite Sales will launch a new Satellite Internet Access Service. Targeting areas that are out of reach for cable or DSL Internet Service, our internet via satellite service will bring broadband speeds to the any home or business in North America.

But, it's a one way deal, D/L only.
You still use a dialup for uploads! :mozilla_frown:

I understand now it is satellite for both ways. At least that is how I am interpretting the advertisement.

very informative post . unfortunately i'm a newbie for this internet satelite and have a great need for this in my rural area. dial up sucks . is this method correct ? i'm lost on how the connection gets made. can some one elaborate or steer me in the right directions.if i have own equipment , it's gotta be cheaper. theory! lol

I just called Directway tuesday and the equipment is $600.00 outright with a $200.00 mail in rebate. Access is $59.99 a month. Or you can do $99.00 a month for 15 months and then it drops to $59.00 a month. Of course who knows what rates will be in 15 months. I did not ask about "what if I am not satisfied". They did not say anything about any contracts.
