Smile Question on DIRECTV Installation and Transponders

We are new to the RV mobile satellite installation and setup routine. We recently purchased a motorhome with a Winngard crankup (roof mount) satellite antenna. We put our Hughes DIRTECTV receiver in the motorhome and have been trying to get a connection signal. We are located in Colorado Springs, CO and the on-screen installation menu indicates that we have two satelliltes 101 and 119, it also says that the access card is good. How do I know which transponder is active? When a satellite is sellected does the correct/active transponder automatically get sellected as well?

We have put in the zip code and found the azimuth (about 162 to 172) and elevation (43 to 45) to use but we never get a lock or signal above zero. Next week we are having a winnegard Digital Magic device added to the antenna to help with the elevation determination.

Is it better to go with a ground mounted tripod and antenna system? Lots of questions. Any assistance appreciated.

I am also located in Colorado Springs. With the winds we have here you may want to consider a ground tripod (assuming you have a clear view to the sat). We had a 5th-wheel and the wind really had it rocking at times.

The Digital Magic device should help you with the direction and angle to point at the satillite. Double-check all of your connections.
