Dish Network Dish / Direct TV
Sorry this might be obvious, but can I use my Installed Dish network dish and connect a Direct TV receiver (active from another home) to it and receive Direct TV programming. If not what modifications do I need to make...

Can't , not even the same system. D for D and DTV for DTV only.

Really, the answer is "probably" YES, although depending on what you want to watch, you might have to re-aim the dish. I say probably, because it may depend on which type Dishnet dish you have. Basically, except for differences in how they switch between sats, and how Dishnet bandstacks, there is no difference with respect to the dish/lnb part of the system.
I'm kind of doing something similar now. My DTV receiver recently died due to a storm. Actually it still works, but wasn't sending and LNB power, so I slaved my DTV receiver to a FTA receiver that is providing the power. I got the FTA receiver to switch sats on the DTV dish, and in doing that, I'm able to watch NASA-TV off dish network on 119, while watching my local channels on the DTV 119 satellite at the same time.
I'd think this would be relatively easy to do if your dishnet system was an old simple one that only looked at one sat, or one of the ones that have separate coaxes coming from each lnb, however you'd probably have to re-aim it to aim at the 101 sat. If your DTV system is a two or 3 sat system though, you'd only be able to view what was on that one sat.
Without moving the Dishnet dish, you might be able to view signals on 110 and 119, if your DTV looks at those too for local or HD, however I wasn't having very good luck doing this. I was having to first lock the DTV on the 101 sat before switching to the 119 sat for some reason.
If you have a more complicated bandstacked Dishnet dish, it may be more complicated to do, but with an older dishnet system it should be dooable.

Thanks for the detailed response....My challenge is that I have some trees blocking my Dish Set up....but I had a guy from A Dish Contractor come and look and tell me that I could get Direct TV because of the different alignment through the trees. My Dish is several years old and has separate LNBs and lines...so I am optomistic. I am going to give it a try....

You can most likely get it to work on the main 101 sat, but if you need the 110 sat for HD or the 119 sat for locals, you probably wouldn't be able to get them. However if Dishnet is blocked by a tree, you probably can't get those sats anyway.

Rainman, I'm lucky enough to setup my own FTA system!! Most people won't do it; those who are rewarded.

I know what you mean Reho when I setup my first dish couldn't get anyone to set it up so I started asking questions and reading anything I could find on the subject. so to me the best way is self taught besides you learn from your mistakes.

On my first dish, I learned from my friends mistakes. My friend and I both bought big heavy 10' dishes. My friend got his first, and mounted it on a PVC pipe instead of a steel pipe. Darn thing bent like a fly rod with a 5 pound bass on the line. Then went through a series of other mistakes. I waited until we figured out how to get his working, then when I went to set up my dish, it was a breeze.

I guess I could add, don't use cheapie components. My current system is a Fortec Star Classic NA and a $4.95 LAVA lnb with the 36" dish. It is OK but I know I would get better stability, etc to move up to a Coolsat and maybe a Invocom Quad LNBF. Got my feet wet for about $200.00 all told.
