VP-1020 Signal strength and quality problems

    Hello,

I am a newbie to the dvb-s cards and am having trouble with signal strength/quality on my TwinHan 1020. I have Dish Network service and am receiving 100+ strength on my dish receiver and receive all channels will no problem from the same lnb so I am relatively sure the dish it pointed correctly.

    Here is my setup:

    - Target Sat: Echostar 7

    - Card: TwinHan VisionPlus 1020

    - Software: Tried WinDVB, ProgDVB, myTheatre

    - PC: 2 ghz, CPU 512mb, RAM 128mb, Nvidia 8x AGP

    Problem:

No matter what software I am using the problem is identical. Echostar 7 has 21 transponders and my signal strength/quality varies greatly from transponder to transponder. On the low end I may have 0 quality and 40 strength and on the high end I might get 40 quality and 55 strength. There are about 8 transponders that won't pick up any channels and the ones that do are such low quality (30-40) that I have reception issues (channel locking up, audio/video gets out of sync).

Also, if I rescan the transponders after 30 minutes or so, it may or may not pick up the same channels again, it seems to be hit and miss. The strength/quality changes without warning.

Again, I am very much a newbie to dvb-s card but have been a computer technican for over 6 years so I know it is not the obvious (bad pci slot, corrupt drivers, etc).

Any feedback is absolutely appreciated, I am about to go crazy

Check the lnbf LO to make sure it is set as 11250.

The setting vary slightly from program to program but here are the setting I have in ProgDVB.

    - Ku-band

    - LOF 1: 11250

    - Switch: 0

    - LOF 2: 11250

    - Power unchecked

    - Sat: Echostar 7

My assumption is that you slave the card to a your stand-alone receiver since you uncheck the power????
If so, try to connect the card directly to your dish to see if you get a better lock.

No slave, just from the lnb to the card and that is where it stopped. Not sure why power is unchecked but checking it has no effect.

    the same problem

I have the same problem when I use it to receive program on T5.

The signal strength and quality are not consistent and stable by different transpnders. For one transponder, you may get 96% strenght with 13% quality, for the other transponder, you only get 80% with 0% quality, therefore, some programs are not able to be locked. In addition, I may recieve progrem at this time, but lost it 20 minutes later.

i am not sure if it is problem of dish pointing, or generic problem of VP1020 itself.

What is the lowest quality you can expect to be able to receive and watch a channel without choppy/freezing?

I may lock some programs at signal quality level of 10% with signal strength of 96%

What is the playback quality like though? Does it get jerky or freeze?

playback quality is just so-so, sometimes you get jerky or freeze.

changing channels is really slow. (takes about 3-8sec.)
