Adding FTA through a PCI with existing C-Band system

I currrently have a C-band system, with a General Instruments 450i receiver. I want to add FTA through my computer. Can I split the c-band signal with a splitter that blocks DC on one side, and lets the G I receiver power the LNB. I want to use the G.I. for changing the position of the dish.

Or, can the FTA PCI control the position of the dish?

Thanks.

The PCI card will not control the position of the C-Band dish. So, use the splitter. It should wok fine. Make sure your set the LNB LO freq to 5150 in the PCI card. Good luck and enjoy. 8)

C-band and Twinhan1020

I just purchased a Twinhan1020 to use with my C/Ku band satellite system. I also have an older GI450i. I have a 7.5 ft. dish and C and Ku band feedhorn and LNBs.

So far I have managed to scan in T5 on Ku and G4 on C. Without a manual it has been hit and miss so to speak. But it was fun receiving Bloomberg on C and all the Arab/Asian stuff on T5 with Ku.

I removed the DiSEqc switch for now as I can't figure out how to set it up. With My C-band cable connected, I set the LNB 1 setting to normal (5150) with power off, switch off. I use the 450i to set the dish to G4. Iwent to dish settings and chose G4R from the list and hit the "scan sattelite" button and it scanned in the channels. Double clicking on Bloomberg brought the video window up and I was watching Bloomberg.

T5 was the same setup except that I connected my Ku cable and scanned as above. Interestingly the signal strength was only 60% but the video was good.

Now if I can only get a manual.

The manual is inlcuded on the CDROM that came with the card. Twinhan doesn't provide a printed (hardcopy) manual.

Twinhan manual

So far I have not been able to read the manual because the wordpad document doesn't load properly. I also tried MS Works and even though the document loaded, it was mostly pages of unintelligible characters.

Perhaps you can put some simple instructions on the installation support page for the Twinhan just as you do for the Fortec, etc. Also, right now I am connecting direct without the DiSEqc switch. Can't figure out how to set it up and it appears to be very lossy.

I might just try using a simple A/B switch to change from C to Ku. It's been fun watching the programs that I have managed to scan so far. I also know that I need to align my dish for better signal.
