    Feeding the signal over LAN?

Just so we're clear, I'm not asking about how to accept non-fta signals, rather just how the feed is read once its on the computer.

The device I've been looking at is:

    VisionPlus VP-1020a

    which recieves mpeg2-ts signals (pbs)

Now i'm looking to install it on my download box, which has enough power to decode normal ts steams. However, since the transport steam is designed for steaming.. i was curious if there was some way to send the live feed over lan, to be read on my laptop/other computers.

Take a look at TSreader (http://www.coolstf.com/tsreader/) . It is not free 9full version is $99, but it is in my opinion single most usueful software for any DVB/mpeg2 hobbyist. There is a Lite version that will let you streeam for 60 seconds so you can use it to test what you need.

It can stream to VLC (which you an then use to stream to any other vlc client on your network).

I also use it all the time to stream over network to my Roku HD1000. It works great. The best part is for HD streams no processing is done on the computer (all it does is take the stream and send it over the network) and then my Roku does all the dirty work. I can stream PBS HD from AMC3/ku for days without any problems.

One thing to consider though, is that I think you need a fast LAN or you will get video that is jumpy. Ie I've used the TSREADER streaming thing myself through my 10baseT Lan with a regular wireless adapter going to my laptop, and the video on even standard definition was quite jumpy, even though from the bit rates it would seem like there should be sufficient bandwidth. I'm pretty sure that it was the speed of the LAN that was responsible, and not the speed of my laptop. I've heard that using the 100basseT and/or the ~50mbs wireless cards would solve the problem, but I haven't upgraded yet to be sure.
In any event, it is a neat capability, and I agree that TSREADER is well worth the investment.
