Please Help: Recording Satellite Radio

What software package are individuals using to record music? I have been unable to find a package that will record the audio only to keep the files small. The programs record everything in MPEG2. I have tried ProgDVB 4 and it works good. The problem is that it crashes all the time - could be 1 minute after loading or 1 hr.

Any help would be appreciated!!

You don't say what software you use (I'm assuming Twinhan's software).

If you have TSReader - http://www.coolstf.com/tsreader/ (the best program for dvb enthusiasts out there in my opinion and well worth $100) you could use audiorip plugin ( http://audiorip.tripod.com/ ). It will recognize all music stations on the transponder (i.e. ones that are free to air on Dish network) and you can select which stations you want to record. It will monitor it and vreate mp2 files for every song and it will read artist info and logically name files.

I don't know if it works with any other dvb programs, but I think it should as long as they support it.

Another thing that is cool (I can't confirm since I have 1030A), 1020A with TSReader is capable of tuning in FTA audio signals from Directv satellites as well and you can use audiorip as well.

Thank you for the info. I am using a Twinhan 1020. I am going to download the software and give it a try. I will followup with you if I have any problems.

Thanks again for the quick response!

It worked, but I ran into a strange issue. The music is jerky when it is playing if I leave TSREADER or Audio Rip as an active window. Everything is fine as long as I minimize both and go to another window - Example: My Computer. I find this behaviour to be rather odd. Additionally, do you use any particular software to convert from mp2 to mp3? It would be nice to get the tag information into the mp3 files with the proper artist, song, etc.

Thanks again for your assistance!

I expirenced jerkiness occasionalym but I think it was because I was trying to record too many streams at once and my computer (p4 1.6) couldn't keep up with it. If I record 2 at the same tiem it seems to work fine.

As for converting mp2 to mp3, there is a great free program call dbPowerAmp Music Converter ( http://www.dbpoweramp.com/dmc.htm ). It works great. And it is easy to use. You just right click ont the file and say convert and it will let you select format and quality (and it does preserve id3 information - I'm pretty sure).
