Noob with Vision 1020a & questions

Im new to the whole FTA thing and just bought myself a vision1020 and would like to know where to start. So far i have an 18 dish with triple lnb's. i am receiving signal strengths between 66-74% from different satellites but cannot pull down anything. Is there anything i should or shouldnt do or any other hardware i need to buy? im very interested in learning everything i can about FTA so ANY advice would be appreciated. Thanks everyone.

18" is too small for FTA. You can use it to get few radioo/music stations from dish/bell and few promo channels and that is about it. To get FTA from other satellites you will need at least 30" dish and a linear Lnbf.

Will a fortec 32' dish do for a decent amount of channels or should i go higher? what is the different between the DTV 1020a card and a pansat or fortec receiver?
