New member needs advice

Hello,

I am planning to buy The VisionPlus TwinHan TH1020A FTA PCI DVB Satellite Receiver.
First, I need to know if I can receive EchoStar 8 (GolTV) and Satcom C3 (Fox Sports World Espaņol). Those channels are listed as FTA.
Second, I live in Massachusetts USA, west of Boston. How difficult is to set the dish pointing to the right direction.
Third, I am already paying digital cable but there is no way to receive one of those channels already mentioned trough my cable provider. Is legal to get FTA channels without paying for them?

Thanks for your help.

Re: New member needs advice

1. Yes, you will get GolTV and FSE as long as they are FTA.
a. GolTV is on DishNetwork, E6/8 at 110W. You can use any DirectTV/Dishetwork dish to get this channel.
b. FSWE is on Satcom C3, C-band. You will need bigger dish to get it, minimum 7.5ft size.
2. Getting DishNet signal is not difficult with a receiver. If you have a DVB receiver, use it. I would not recommend to use a DVB PCI for tuning the dish.
3. FTA DVB is legal. But you need to know that these channels might be encrypted in future. There are no guarantees.

Thanks Michael,

I am getting FSWE trough COMCAST digital cable.
I am really interested in GOLTV + some other FTA channels from South America if that is possible. But I would be happy just to get GOLTV.
I just have a digital cable box. I imagine I have to buy a DVB receiver.
I have an old dish left by Direct TV when I switched to digital cable. Would that dish be enough??.
I think a 7.5ft size dish is too big for my available space.
What DVB receiver do you recommend???
What else do I need apart of the DVB receiver and the dish????

I really appreciate your help,

Bomavico

Re: dtsexpert Michael

If you go for a receiver, I recommend to get Fortec brand. I have 786v3 and Lifetime (discontinued, replaced by Ultra).

A FTA DVB receiver and a DiretTV/DishNetwork are all you need for GolTV. Very nice channel for soccer fans. I watch it all day long on Sat and Sunday.
