What satellite system do I need?

    Hi all,
I'm looking to purchase a system primarily to get FTA Korean channels (GALAXY10R & TEL5) but would like the capability to surf to other satellites. I am "brand new" at this so please excuse my ignorance. I know what I need but I dont want to buy OBSOLETE hardware either.
Sodoun pointed me toward #1 and #3 systems here at the site which is on clearance which is ok except ,doesnt clearance usually mean replaced or obsolete . Would anyone recommend another system and why? BTW, I located in the middle of center city of Philadelphia if there's anything I need to know.
Also, I do have a DIRECTV hookup (barely- there's a tall building that's to the south of me and I barely got my signal through ).
Reading some of the posts here says that these FTA Korean channels come and gon. How many channels are free all-the-time? Could you tell me what I can expect before I plunge in and might get disappointed.

Thats it for now, more later
    Thanks for the help
    Andy

    Hi Andy:

There are presently 3 free Korean channels on T5; KISB 1 to 3. Also on G10R there are 5 channels free.

However; these 2 satellites are quite a swing apart; T5 is at 97 degrees and G10R at 123 degrees. You would need 2 dishes or a motor to get the most Korean channels.

If you are just barely "threading the needle" through those tall buildings to get DirecTV (101 degrees) then T5 should be no problem (only 4 degrees to the east) but G10R might present a problem as the difference is 22 degrees west of DirecTV 101. Plus the elevation is lower for G10R as well so that compounds the issue.

Just something for you to consider.

    Thanks for the reply Bobcat.
Actually, going west is much better than go east at my location. Now my only worry is elevation. I'm on the roof and my DirecTV dish sits pretty upright. Can I use the dish from DIRECTV to get T5 ( just curious) but I still need a FTA DVB digital receiver of course ? A dish is a dish right ?

The Fortec Star 786v3 is an excellent receiver. The clearance sale is a great buy compared to what is available in the market today. We are providing this sale because we want to move our inventory quicly to make room for new models coming out from Fortec Star in the next few weeks.

These new models will have the same great features that the 786v3 has, plus more. The price of course for the new models will be much higher.

The Fortec Star 786v3 systems are going very fast. Grab one at these low prices today...

Nope - for free-to-air you need a minimum 30" (75 cm) dish - preferably a 36" (90 cm). Dishes are "sort of" like off-air TV antennae - the bigger the better in terms of gathering sufficient signal. The 18" DirecTV, DishNet and Bell ExpressVu mini-dishes will not work for FTA. Yes; you need a DVB receiver as well.

Last I checked there were 5 free channels on G10R.

The 31" dish from sadoun is just fine for the U.S. midwest; a bigger dish is better but not necessary.
