Someone can confirm if cantonese chinese chanal "GONGTONG" is really free on SATMEX 5 at 116.8 W? Checking in LINGSAT.com, it's not a free chanal. Thanks in advance.

Hi everyone,
I am new to the satellite world, and just joined this forum today. I am anxiously to learn from everyone.

My first question ever to this forum is:
Can I receive free Chinese channels from both G3C and T5 at the same time with one set of equipment since they are so close to each other (95W and 97W)?
My set up is - disk (long axis: 100 cm, short axis: 90 cm)
LNB (Invacom SNH-031)
Reciever (PROSAT P-8800 Digital Satellite Receiver DV3)

If it is possible, any guidance on how to set it up is very much appreicated!

the easiest way would be to add a motor to your dish so you can see other sats.the problem of using 2 lnbs for sats this close is to get the right alignment.

Rainman,
Thanks for the reply.
Since I do have a second Ku-Band LNB (and a second disk), I would like to try 2 LNB method first. Do you know where I can find instructions on how to set up 2 LNBs on 1 disk to receive signals from 2 satellites?

Also, would it work if I set up two disks, one aims at IA5 and one aims at G3C, and use a simple cable single A-B switch to conncet to my sat. receiver?

Thanks much!

the 2 dish method would be the best do to trying to get 2 lnbs close enough to receive to sats 2 degrees apart.

Cool.

I wish all these Chinese channels were located on one bird, so I wouldnt have to get different dishes or multiple LNBs.... for example, I wish the 3 CCTV4 channels would be on 97w, instead of 95w. (heh).

Yeah, but I keep hearing people complain it takes too long to move from one sat to the next with a motor.. so you'd change the channel and it may take 5-10 seconds for the dish to move , etc.. then you switch back to the previous channel and the dish moves again.. what a pain ..... or you have to concious of when to flip channels or not.. heh..

on my ultra you hit the sat button and you only get channels on that sat when you want to go to another sat hit the sat button and you get only the channels on that sat keeps from having the motor jump back and fourth.

Ok, I can see that being a feature in that particular situation, but the other downside is that changing channels is not seamless.. for example, say you want to switch back and forth between VTV4 and CCTV4 ... that's a pain to have to hit the SAT button to switch back and forth.. d'oh.. heehh..

ON a motorized system switching between IA5 (VTV4) and G3C (CCTV4) doesn't take more than 5 seconds.

Yeah, but you still have to be concious and careful.. if you flip back and forth between those two channels, 5 seconds is an eternity. heeh.. even when I flip thru channels on the same sat, it takes about 2-3 seconds for the picture to show up... not as fast as flipping thru regular TV which is about instataneous...

Also, doesnt it wear your motor when it moves so often... and the other thing is ... since I did the fixed mount, it doesnt have to be 100% accurate, but with HH mount, you really need to install that stuff precisely, right??

with the fixed mount you miss a lot of stuff thats out there on sats. with motorized you can scan different sats and never know what you will find. but if you just want to watch tv than fixed is the way to go.I prefer to surf the sky for new stuff.

Yeah, I like to surf and scan too...

another related question... doesnt moving the dish back and forth when you move around the sats cause much wear and tear on the motor... so I would guess it would wear down after 2-3 years of usage??

everything wears out over time even in a fixed mount bolts rust allowing movement of the dish on the pole. but just thing of all the shows you will see while you wear out the motor.LOL

nice... yeah, that's a good point.. I AM missing out on some good shows since I dont have a motor! d'oh... I guess wear-and-tear is more for the C-band motor since it's bigger (which I have)... rather than the smaller Ku-band dishes.. heh...

Well, maybe one of these days when I have some free time to order a motor for my FTA system and set-it up , etc. but I've just heard it is much more difficult and finicky than your stationary mount (which is a breeze for me to do now.... all I need is a level, dont need compass, I just aim and tweak a bit to get my Galaxy 25 (97w)...)....

for now I am too busy watching the other channels with my fixed mount sats...

if you have mastered setting up the stationary system then adding a motor won't be as big a problem as someone starting off new with a motor and the c band motors hold up just fine had one for 10 years with no problems before the case cracked actualy the motor still works.

be236 is on a distinguished road
nice.. heh.... well, since ITC (free) C-band channels are so dispersed thru the various sats, for me to move from the east sats to the west sats take about 10-20 seconds which seems forever.. so I am impatient, so I just park my c-band at some sat that I watch most, knowing that I am missing out on my other less favourite shows. it's a trade-off.. oh well...

As for ku-band, yeah, setting up stationary is pretty easy now that I've done it twice (heh).. so one of these days, maybe I'll get a motor for it... but again, it has to be more precise setting than stationary mount which you can have more leeway in.. heh.

when you move from 1 sat to the other it gives you a chance to run to the fridge for a cold one.LOL
