I remember since 6 years ago there were rumors that CCTV4 was going to go or become encrypted when they switched to Digital. That never happened and CCTV4 remained on Galaxy 3C FTA.
My friends informed me that the govenment has changed its position and will retain CCTV on G3C. We will soon see.

It's April 1, 2008 in China right now, and CCTV is still FTA on G3C right now.
I hope that the CCTV channels do remain in the clear, because I, for one, enjoy watching chinese television.
I never knew that China was as beautiful as I have seen and discovered on CCTV.

I agree. Politics aside, China is a beautiful country. My mom visited about three times and was so very impressed with the beauty and warmth of the people. I guess I'm also interested on how they report on the unrest in Tibet. They are very proud of the new railroad there, and this unrest has been predicted in the West because of the railroad.

I checked my CCTV programs this morning (04/02/08). They were and are still on.

China has a lot of progress ahead of it. It has done a great job developing the coastal regions and provinces in the last 20 years. However, the inland provinces are still "understandably" behind.
I never seen such fast progress and infrastructure development pace.
I hope that CCTV may be here to stay FTA, and I am glad.
It seems that if the cable or satellite companies pick up a channel, than the owners of that channel decide to scramble. I'm not sure if it is in the contract with cable that they should have the exclusive right to broadcast it, or if the channel owners themselves decide to scramble, to show the channel has worth.
Hallmark channel was free to air until the cable and satellite companies picked it up, than they scrambled it.
People who don't have FTA as a hobby, usually won't use a movable or stationary dish once they are "subscribed" to a cable or satellite service. It's all about convenience.
I have talked to folks that have a 10 or 12 foot dish in their yards about FTA, and the common answer is, "Oh we used that before we got Dish Network."
I am glad that CCTV, even though picked up by Dish Net, is still in the clear. It doesn't mean that the channels are worth any less, but actually they are worth more.

I believe CCTV on G3 will last till the Olympics is over. It is time to show off for more people in the world to see it.
