US Sport Aviation Expo at Sebring, FL

Anybody going down to Sebring, FL for the US Sport Aviation Expo 1/11-14, 2007?

The Expo is the place to see, try, buy and sell Light Sport Aircraft, and learn about LSA and Sport Pilot Certificate and other LSA related certifications.

I going to leave flying to the professionals. Everytime, I think of taking a flying lesson, my thoughts drift to the fate of JFK Jr, John Denver, etc.

That is a great new class of license for hobbiest. Far less investment in everything involved. I will not be making the trip down but it would be interesting. I am looking for something more in the Piper Cherokee size.

I think the Light Sport Aircraft lic is nice step into aviation hobby. I will be visiting the show to check a two seater trike like the one you see on the bottom picture. I will take some pictures and share them with you when I come back.

Does the Light Sport AC license have requirements for medical exams like the regular pilot's license? And what are the requirements for mechanical maintenance on the aircraft? Also, is there any altitude limit for these things? I live under a military training route, and the planes fly over sometimes as low as 100' agl. It could get quite interesting if I had one of those things up at the same altitude that an F-15 or C-17 was using, coming at me. :-)
I know one time there was a small single engine plane flying across the route here at about 1500', and a flight of F-16s flew UNDER him.

Requires either a 3rd class FAA medical certificate or a current and valid U.S. driver's license as evidence of medical eligibility (provided the individual does not have an official denial or revocation of medical eligibility on file with FAA). You can't fly higher than 10,000 ft above sea level.

Here are the rules summary: Sport Pilot Rule Synopsis

A long PDF version (462 pages) is here: http://www.sportpilot.org/learn/final_rule.pdf

Here are some "Made in USA" aircrafts that yuo can operate with this lic. class: Light Sport Aircraft: The ZODIAC XL S-LSA for Sport Pilots: American-made / Certified Production Aircraft
