An opinion on Internet Explorer 7
Anyone is using IE7? How do you like it? Any issues with upgrading?
I heard mixed reviews about it and would like to hear from you. Does it have the same security strength as FireFox? I hope so, but, I guess that remains to be seen.

I'm using it on one of my notebooks.
I upgraded to it after IE 6 kept crashing & ending out with some type of system error.
It's OK. I really dont see much performance/operation difference.
They moved the "refresh", "quit", "home" icons and site display locations.
That got to be confusing, having to remember where these are.
I cant comment on security compared to firefox as I've not used firefox.
The "about" IE 7 says it's 128 bit cipherstrength, FWIW.
Seems to do all I need a browser to do.

I got a customized version from Yahoo DSL.
Toolbars are messy, and there is no visual appeal.
Still prefer Firefox

I've been using IE7 since beta 1, and it's come a long way. I like the tabbed browsing of course (not quite a slick as FireFox), but most of all I like the change to the way any executing code is handled.
In IE6, if you visited a malicious website and code got through the "sandbox", it could mean disaster if you're logged into the machine as an administrative user because that code executes with the privs of the user that's logged in - ack!
However in IE7, they've implemented the logic that applies to Vista as a whole - everything executes with lowest permissions. So if you're logged into XP as admin, visit that same malicious website in IE7, that code (if it makes it through all of the new defenses) would execute with the systems minimum privs, with little to no risk of damage or leaking sensitive information.
A nice change and a compelling reason to upgrade - especially now that it's been out for a while!

Nope..
No way.. I'm trying to totally ween myself from Microsoft. Of course, I have XP on my machine at work but here at the house, I am ALL Mac(s). I split my time surfing on the Mac between Firefox and Safari. I was a MS guy since MSDOS 2.1 but a year ago I decided that I've had enough of the spyware, viruses, malware, searching for drivers, registry problems, etc. I have replaced the 4 PC's in my house with Macs and just keep an old junky 900 MHZ Wintel PC here when I absolutely need Windows (I run a piece of software at work called Primavera P3 and occasionly I bring work home with me)....
Not one piece of malware and not one crash since.....

I run Red Hat on one box at the house and XP on the other. Have XP at work. Gotta agree. If you want a box that runs you simply must get rid of Windoze.

I have 2 MACs and 1.5 LINUX boxes sitting in a corner never used, mainly because for both, every new piece of software I'm interested in required a new version of the OS, and for the MAC this often required new hardware too. On the 6 PCs that I have running 24/7, 4 have XP, 1 1/2 have Win2K, and 1 has Win98. I also have several other computers that I occasionally use, which have Win98, Win95, Win3.2 and Dos 3.1 on them.
We have only had spyware problems on 1 computer, and that was one that my wife had running MS Outlook and IE, because it was required by here work. The other computers use other programs for internet. On the computer that had been running IE and Outlook, we'd run spyware programs and get hundreds of hits every time we checked. I haven't had a spyware hit on my other computers in a couple years. Same thing for viruses. Only virus's we've run into were on my wife's computer. Of course we have the added advantage of connecting via a poor dialup, so it makes it harder for people trying to get in, since we're seldom on the same IP# for more than a few minutes at a time.
In my opinion, it's not the OS that gives MS users problems, it's the MS applications. And it's not really that there is anything wrong with the MS software, it's just that that is what 90% of the people out there are using, so that is what the pirates are going after. If 90% of the people were using Linux or MAC, that is what would be hacked.
Anyway, I couldn't do 10% of what I do daily on the computer if I was using anything except Windows, and that includes 90% of my satellite stuff. I hate Microsoft as much as anyone, but if you switch, you're just losing too much capability.

I'm not against the Macs or anything, I have boxes here and at work that sport Windows, Mac OS, various distros of Linux, Solaris, etc etc. Only thing I really don't like about the Mac is Safari, but that's preference I guess.
Anyway, do be sure to keep your virus software up-to-date on your Macs, especially if you're running OS X - there a lot of buzz out there in amongst the virus kiddies about the joys of OS X and BSD, so I'm sure something major will attempt to be a problem in the relatively near future.

I fully agree with that - even the script kiddies know to spend their time where it counts!
