Free BUD (C-Band Dish) available!
Hey all...
Need some parts? Building or expanding your satellite dish farm??
A few weeks ago, I was over at my boss's house and noticed his satellite farm -- two DirecTV dishes and a mesh C-band dish. We've already made plans for the extra DirecTV dish (and receiver!!) (can you say "tailgate" ?), but he said whoever is willing to take the C-band dish out of his yard is welcome to it.
If any of you folks are interested and in or near the Tallahassee, FL area, drop me a private message and we can arrange all the particulars.
- briand (who rents, so can't take it or use it)

? I assume by "tailgate" you're referring to a hamfest?
The interesting thing about this, is that up this way, getting rid of trash, is more and more becoming something that individuals have to pay for, rather than just being something that government does for you. When this trend began a few years ago, it first began to noticed at ham-fests. Ie, people started to use ham-fests as a way to get rid of big items that were no longer being picked up with regular trash. They'd take sat dishes and old useless electronic equipment to hamfests, and put them up for sale, for basically nothing, then when no-one bought them, they'd just leave them there. The hamfest organizers would end up having to pay to dispose of all the junk people left behind. The hamfests had to make new rules that vendors couldn't use the hamfest as a garbage dump. I haven't attended one since all this started, but I suspect that there aren't as many sat dishes available anymore, because the odds are better that the person bringing them would have to take them home with them if not sold.

heheh... yeah, judging by some of the "quality" merchandise I've seen available at the last couple hamfests I attended, I'd say that practice may still be in vogue!
No, "tailgate" in this particular sense means "pre-game (football) party in the parking lot". The boss has DirecTV at home, with a valid subscription, and also has this "spare" dish & receiver, left by the previous homeowner. I'm going to help him 'un-plant' that dish, and get a portable rig going for him for those occasional Saturday outings... but, he has no use whatsoever for the BUD.

Oh, I forgot about that version of tailgating. I've never done that. Always wondered if tailgaters ever made it into the game. If I was going to pay good money to watch a football game, I'd want to be inside the stadium to watch the players practice before the game. Of course the last football game I went to had John Henry Johnson and Bobby Layne playing against Frank Gifford and Y.A.Tittle, and I don't think the stadium even had a parking lot back then. I remember parking on the street and walking a mile.

How far are you from Orlando? I may take the beast if you are willing to take it down. What size is it? The company I work for has a plant in Orlando and I could intercompany transport it back up here.

Orlando is about a 4 hour drive from Tallahassee (assuming you're going the speed limit on the interstate).

Have to pass here. Was hoping it was just down the road. Expenses are starting to look a bit large
