Sg2100 On a Wingaurd nightmare...

After hitting and missing some sats, moving dish location and adjusting for months I have figured out what is wrong with my set up.

I beleive the Wingaurd was never meant to be used with sg2100. The reason is the mounting pole that comes with the Wingaurd tapers just before it bends at an angle to the wall.

It's at that bend is where the bottom clamp of the sg2100 falls. This is causing a missalignment. I am good at the sats closest to due south but i miss the ends of the arc. This explains why I have had no problems pointin when using a fixed wingaurd.

Other gripes...
The wingaurd is not sturdy enough to hold the Invacom lnb. the weight pulls the lnb down. I am pissed the could not design this better. if you tighten the screws on the lnb holder to much you risk striping the plastic they screw into, total crap. With that skew and the slightly down lnb do not affect sig strength. Mainly its the mounting pole.

I have an old dish 500 that seems to have a longer straight tube before the taper at the bend. On this I think the clamps will lay on straight tube. What a pain. Tou would think they could design these things to work better. To top that off with most of the "good" programing still on c-band. ARGH!!

What size Winegard are you talking about? I’ve read nothing but good results with the SG-2100 matched with the Winegard 1 meter.

Thanks Rainman.

I think I am gonna try the mount that caome with my Dish 500 system. It has a slightly longer straight edge to mount the motor.

Damn even KU sats are ALOT easier to point when its post are plum. I can litterly swing the dish in my true south position and get signal on 121.0 (no motor on a fixed dish).

If you are hitting in the center and not on the ends your dish elevation is off. Try going up one degree and then lowering the motor elevation one degree. If this makes it worse then simply reverse the process with the dish at 1 degree higher than original start point and motor down 1 degree.

I will keep that in mind after I swap out the poles. Might run into the same issue.

I got the same thing. From what I read, it sounds like winegard is suposed to be a good dish, but Im not impressed with the 76cm and since all the pics I've seen at web sites say WINEGARD on the dish, and mine doesn't I wonder if its not a cheap copy with a photo copy of the instruction sheet included.

I made support rods from aluminum rod stock that runs from the lower holes on the sides of the dish to a section of angle aluminum mounted to the same screws that hole the plastic holder. This provide a bit of suport for the arm. Also, my arm was not bent close enough. Check from the botton face edge to the center of the lnb you should hafe 17.564". Check from the top face edge to the center of the lnb and you should have 30.534" That is from a pdf sheet winegard sent me in request for the true focal point. Im told that the focal point really should fall about 1/8" behind the plastic face, But I found I could move the lnb back ahd forth through it's range with no effect on signal. So main thing is to get the lnb over the focal point and close. Check side to side also. Mine seemed to be a little off there also. I made a cardboard frame to set vertical FP. I still need to double check horizontal FP.

I was having the same problem and crushed the top of the poll trying to keep the motor from leaning forward before I saw the problem. Ended up making a new pole from fence post pipe. Same size but slightly thicker wall and alot stronger pipe. I now am hitting 61.5 to 129w, but think the arc is still off. From VDR I have to send the motor a few clicks west for east sats and east for west sats. Closer to south (110.89 x 32.23 for me) they seem dead on, so I think I have south correct. Already have the motor a couple degrees lower (dish higher) then what is stated using an angle finder to start. Guess those numbers are all just starting points.

I assume you got the DMS motor? be carefull with the connectors. The nut is very thin, so it really can't be tightened down properly or it will break. So if you tighten the cables too tight you could turn the connector and break it loose from the board. Use strong finger tight only, no wrenches.
