How fast is your internet?
Statistics says almost 45% of internet users in the USA have broadband access. What speed is YOUR internet?

Rainman
How are the forums loading for you using the dial up?
Have you thought about Wild Blue or DirecWay?

Sadoun,
While I am using a DSL line here at work I am on an old WIN98 box. The forum loads slow for this box. Sometimes halting this computer to where it is a CTRL ALT DEL to end process of Internet Explorer. The forum would be my guess is not written as HTML 3.2 compliant which when I was programming was the line in the sand used as it could be viewed relatively easily by anyone.
If you wanted to add nifty script either server or client side I used a sniffer to determine OS and browser and modified the pages on the fly accordingly. If you assign random id's to every user that passes through (this is strictly server side the user generally is not aware) you can attach the data from the first sniff to that ID and the sniffer does not have to be used for every page. The data is simply passed on through the site carried by the random id that was assigned.
When the user ends their stay at the site the data leaves with the id. No cookies to store for the client and no data for the server to store. By the way my preference is server side programming as your server is most likely a powerhouse (mine always were) and generation of a site is far quicker with the server than with any client. This makes a site load faster as it is built by the server on the fly specifically for that particular OS browser combination.
Everyone gets served. I did check into Directway for home use but found it a bit pricey for me at this time equipment wise.

I appreciate your explanation. If you were trying to answer my question; I do not think you've answered any question and nothing made sense to me.
If you were trying to just express your experience, the disregard this thread.

Hi Guys
I was watching a program yesterday about Internet 2. I couldn't believe my ears when I heard that they are reaching internet speeds of 10 Gega Bits Per Second.
Just to make sure I heard it correctly, I really have to play the program again as I recorded it on my VIP622 DVR receiver.

We are talking GEGA not MEGA bits per second.
So if your coax is getting you 3 MBPS, Internet 2 would give 10,000 Megabits per second
Look here for more tests that have been done: http://lsr.internet2.edu/
Once this becomes commercial, I guess the sky is the limit on how many 1000s HDTV channels you will be able to receive using your Internet connection. This could be 10 years down the road, I don't know.

I might be off, but would hard drives be able to keep up with that speed? That seems to be a higer transfer rate than most hard drive can handle

I think current HD drives can handle a geg or two (some LANS have 1 geg Lan speeds). But 10 geg would be another issue. By then they will probably have better hardware and operating systems.
