Hello
Wow! Finally I think I can say HELLO to everyone! I am the very new "kid" on the block. I needed to say that by reading all the messages I have been able to install the system. I do have one question...Is it ok to install the 80cm dish on a pole passing the roof of the house? It is going to be aproximately 25 feet. My husband wants to relocate the dish .

Hi Mayo, I think I can say welcome, I"ve been here for a little while. About the dish on the 25 foot pole, it would be ok, depending on how rigid the pole is, also, if you wanted to do modifications to the dish, or just maybe touch up the alignment once in a while, 25 feet in the air might pose some problems as compared to a ground mounted dish, or side of the house mounted dish. It would never work for me because I am always changing something on it, besides I'm scared of heights but thats me Also, if the dish is up high and out in the open it will be at the mercy of the wind, so your signal may be erratic on windy days.

Hello Starman, and Rainman
Thank you for your reply. The pole is going to be atrapped against the eave of the house and set on concrete under ground about 3'. Also, I was thinking to use a galvanized 2" pipe. I told my husband about the wind, the height ( Iam scared of heights too!),but he insist that is going to be better.
Thanks again and have a beautiful day.

I am using steel gas pipe on my install. but it's only 6 feet LOL. but seriously with the height you are going I would make the pipe a scheudle 80 or thicker.

Pipe and something else
Hello Rainman
Thank you for the input about the pipe. I am going to Home Depot tomorrow to see what they have.
Do you know if a Fortec Star 6' prime focus dish is compatible with the coolsat 5000? Also, is that dish good for an area with trees...(lots of trees!)?

6 foot prime focus dish should work find with your receiver. trees are a another issue you need to have a clear path to sat to receive good signal.

clear view
Hello Rainman
So, It does not matter what kind of dish I purchase. I must have a clear view? I am new at this, and ever since I started fooling around with this new hobby, I have noticed more FTA dishes around. Some of them are in heavily wooded areas. Also noticed that it must be different with Direct TV and Dish Network because some of my neighbors have that type of service and they have trees all around...it seems that they can get a signal in spite of the trees.
O.K., thank you again.
Mayo

direct tv and dish use a higher power satellite so it will give better signal also they use stationary dishes so if they can find clear area between trees and sat they do not have to worry about other sat's.
