Shop till I drop on ebay
I personally don't mind picking up some great bargains on ebay. Although I'll research whatever I'm buying in several different places like amazon.com, bizrate, and such. I've been a seller on ebay for several years now and so I know what to look for in a decent seller. And of course, always, always, always pay with paypal, layered with a credit card. That way, if paypal won't issue a refund, the cc company will stop the payment and research the transaction and issue a refund if something goes wrong. Also, the credit card, insulated with paypal, virtually puts an end to the identity theft problem. Picked up some fantastic bargains shopping on ebay, searching for things that have strange ending times like 4 in the am, or 1 in the afternoon, when the only people shopping online are housewives and stay-at-home moms, and they're not shopping for electronics and gadgets. Just my 2c.

I use satellite forums but with some receivers, there were no reviews on a receiver (except for the not so legal kind) so it was kind of in the dark on them.
Amazing how someone who's stealnig services say the unit is awesome yet the legal ones (who use it for motorized and blind scan) say its a turd

$$
When I shop I usually goto the net first. Local retailers can't compete with the best prices in the nation.
I use
Ebay first
Froogle
Pricegrabber
And then I look for reviews on the item I have narrowed it down to.
After this is done I go back to the least expensive (total price ie. with shipping) to place my order. I find a little research can save me a whole lot of $. Plus I feel more confident about the purchase if I have read reviews of the product.

Isn't it funny how much difference you can find in price on an item online? I have found Sadoun to be right in there with the least expensive. Couple that with close to me (about 2 hours from where I work) and the great service I have received from them and he has a winning package.
I was surfing around yesterday looking for instructs on how to set the physical stops on a SG2100 and came across many sites that sold the motor. The highest I found was $159.95 and advertised as a great deal. I think Sadoun is at $69.95 which is on the lower end of what shops are charging. Same motor, same everything.

Well you do end up with a pile of things here and there. Everything except xxx was good on this one. This one over here needs a vvv. But the price is right. The dish I have pointed at 40.5 was free with the pole and C Band feedhorn and lnb (linear) they had set it on the fedhorn so the support arms were bent out of shape a bit but managed to get them straight enough to get very good signal.
Have one around the corner that has the feedhorn but no lnb or actuator. I have a spare 24" actuator (if it is still laying out there in the barn) and the linear unit I took off for the BSC-621 lnbf on the dish pointed at 40.5.

I would prefer to buy locally (so I can touch and see the stuff), but for stuff I cant get locally (such as this FTA equipment), then I try to get recommendation from friends or read those various satellite forums to get user feedback on brands and models to get and online stores to use or avoid, etc....

I use to shop ebay, that's until i got ripped off on a FTA receiver. I bought a Sonicview sv1000 STB, came out being a clone. If whomever shops at ebay, i suggest they read the sellers feedback first before buying. I just purchased some equipment from Saudon last weekend. The prices aren't half bad as these local retailers. Been so busy working, i don't have any time to pickup locally.

I first check out the forums pertaining to the type of product I am buying, then go to online sellers for the best price but before I purchase I go to the manufacturers web site and check out who is an authorized seller because if your buying hi end electronics from a non authorized you may have a problem when it comes to warranty work.
Some eBay sellers offer a two year warranty on product that the manufacturer offers a five year, this should be a clue to what they are selling.

I usually don't know exactly what I'm looking for at first, so I start googling around with keywords that I think are close to what I want, then after reading a bunch of web pages, I eventually zero in on the right set of keywords for what I want.
From that point, I generally find a product that suits what I want, then I broaden the search again, now knowing more about what I'm looking for and compare similar products and sellers with the range of products they have, support forums, and such.
However, once I finally find a seller that I like, I usually stick with them till they don't have what I'm looking for, or I have found that their service is not as good as I | |
