Big dish for Dish?

I just came back from Jamaica. The villa where I was staying had an 8 foot solid dish on its roof pointing to 121W as far as I can tell. Inside, there was a DirectTV receiver hooked up to the TV.

Does anyone understand the logic in putting up such a big dish just for DirectTV?
