Any Female members here?

Just wondering the ratio of women to men members here? Since satellite TV is mostly a male dominated hobby, I would like to hear from our female members here. If you are a female reading this post and want to chime in about your satellite interest, please do so.

Of course, all are welcome to comment as well.

I think the enjoyment of the end result is probably balanced but the actual do it yourself is probably way heavy male.

But, with women making 70% of the purchasing decision (statistically speaking), we need to have more women content here.

Don't get caught in an endless spiral downward. Are you currently successful with all of this? I did purchase most of the sat stuff around the house in an attempt to find her programming it was me that was doing the shopping. Me doing the research. Was my decision influenced by her? Definitely BUT she does not visit your site nor lyngsat nor any other sat related sites. She simply has no interest, she enjoys the result. So you could say she is part of the 70% you speak of but in an indirect way.

Forget stats in general what do your stats say? Male or female names on orders placed? Most of the women I have seen posting here are posting for their husbands. Or an attempt to find him an answer. Now if you were selling installed systems the tables might shift but then again there is so much to learn and why go through that when she can just call cable or DN and her headache is done?

I think the female influence in accordance with your product line is indirect more than direct. I have not seen your order records so I can not say that with any accuracy. Just a feeling

You're right. These stats don't apply to this hobby. Almost all of the satellite dish installers are men (I haven't seen or sold to a woman installer).

But maybe a more appropriate question would be, how much of an influence your spouse has on your decision to buy a satellite system? I know a lot of our ethnic customers decisions are greatly influenced by the women side of the family. It is also the same when it comes to ordering a DirecTV or Dishnetwork service. The lady of the house has great influence as far as what package to get and what channels are included.

Agreed Jamal that was the only reason we got cable so the wife could have the channels she wanted. but the satellite side is all mine i just love to surf the skies.

There are a handful of female installers out there. I met one installing ExpressVu for Bell. She was very good too. But the overwhelming majority are guys.

They are there!

I am an Admin and Smod at several FTA sites. We do have a growing number of female members that contribute quite a lot to this hobby.

FTAGAL has been out of the scene lately, but there are quite a few others that have stepped up to the plate and are very helpful and contributing members at several sites. You may not see them but they are there.

I still hold with my perception. This is a commercial site with definite motives/drives. A quick look at a random group of orders should tell the story. "quite a few others" is a relative statement. Quite a few when compared to ? I am not saying they do not exist just that the scales are heavily tipped in the male direction and if I were running a sat store I would structure the store and my site accordingly.

The prices here are very competitive along with product quality so I highly doubt any female would avoid buying here just because it didn't "feel" or "look" more female friendly. Again a look at the orders tells the tale.
