Off to start the setup for Field Day 2007

a small segment of our local DX club (about 10 of us) get together and setup at a local Coast Guard base for the ARRL sanctioned 24 hour operation.

We operate QRP (5 watts power), battery powered equipment for the duration. Exclusivly CW (morse code) so we'll be on the lower segments of the bands.

Look for K2ZR on the air (and no, it's not my call...) for you amateur operators that wish to participate and look for us. Things start at 2pm eastern.

I searched for a while, but couldn't find you. Heard many dozens of people camped out calling CQ, but perhaps you were one of those replying to them, although it's probably my antenna. Only one I have up operational right now is a long wire aiming south. I've forgotten all my code, so I wouldn't have come back. I was using a PK232 to copy, but don't have it hooked up to send right now. Years ago, I used to use the PK232 to send and receive CW at about 80WPM, which was easier than struggling along at 5 wpm. Sounded like RTTY. Had a friend in Md who also had a PK232, and we'd wizz along. I heard some today that sounded like computer code, ie too regular.
I'll try listening again later.

Well, thanks for trying.

We made about 1100 contacts for the 24 hour period. 2A battery, QRP.

Great weather. Had a good time.
