Houston Tracker 70

Just got a HS 70 w/remote for free. Will be my dishmover for one of my Atlantic sats.

EDIT: Just got back from picking up the HT70. It has a dark blue module in it. Anyone know what module this would be?

johnny331 is on a distinguished road
The blue module is a Video Cipher II descrambler for receiving the channels that you have to pay for.

I assume that the question was whether it is a VCII, a VCII+ or a VCRS, based on it's color. This was discussed a few months back, but I'm not sure that there was any definative conclusion. I think the VCII units were black, but I can't remember past then. I think the real way to tell is to look at the serial number, and see if it has a slot for a card. Ie I think the obsolete VCII units have a serial number that start with 010 , 018 or 032. My VCRS begins with 040. I think the VCII+ units were something like 028 and 027, and something else. Seems like there was one version that only worked in Canada. But you can tell if it is an RS version by the card slot. I don't remember the plain VCII units having telephone connections. At least I don't think my 010 unit does.

I pulled it and it has VideoCipher stamped into the case. Has a phone connection and the slot for the card. I also found VCRS on the board when I peered into the cooling vents.

Was curious as to if it was a module that someone might be able to put use to with a 4DTV receiver since I understand modules are no longer being built. On that note might be best to keep as a spare

If you do end up using it, it might be helpful to change the onboard battery. If it dies, the board dies with it.

Its an easy procedure, Radio Shack has all the components.
