Curious question about launching channel
Let say I own a local tv station and I want to transmit my signal to Galaxy10R for viewing FTA. About how much will this cost ROUGHLY? I know there are options and stuff, but the PanAmSat website that owns GALAXY will obviously not give out prices. Does anyone know?

Well; its not pocket change, that's for sure...
I know that Bell ExpressVu pays roughly $ 36,000 CDN per transponder per month !!!! That's a lot of dough...
So the entire bird (Nimiq 91) costs them about 14 million dollars annually.

Well let's see - if your typical transponder can handle 9 video channels; 36,000 divided by 9 = 4,000 CDN per month, so around $3,000 US per channel per month - just approximate figures here. That's probably a very low estimate since Bell ExpressVu leases the whole satellite, not just one channel or even just one transponder.

That sounds very very low monthly charge. Are you sure it is 36,000 per transponder or per channel on each transponder??? I think it is the later, but I could be wrong. Because if it was only around $3000 per month per channel, you will see the SADOUN channel early next month...hehehe

Yeah well you got to remember that Bell owns Telesat Canada which in turn owns the birds !!! So it would figure that ExpressVu gets "discount rates", as it were. The SADOUN channel !!! LMAO !!
On second thought - I could have read the figures wrong - perhaps it was 360,000 per transponder per month - not 36,000. In that case a typical channel would cost $ 30,000 US per month. Guess that's more like it.

3000 USD does not sound unlikely
Hi, I was just reading the discussion on the fees paid. I do not think 3000 USD for one channel for one month is too little. If we think for a moment, How big is the Serbo-croatian speaking population in the USA? It is a small population, but large enough to support PinkPlus and RTC, I dont think these stations generate enough revenue from Serb americans to support a 36,000 usd per month fee. Also, I have seen many local news stations that have a channel just for feeds from their satellite truck, certainly these do not run 36,000 per month, no way could most local news stations pay this. Also, think of the local stations from Huntsville Alabama or Tupelo Mississippi....this city has a population of maybee 60,000 people, but they have all of their locals broadcasting FTA. For the 5 local stations that is 2.50 USD per person to broadcast...not to mention probably less than 30% of the people in these communities have any satellite system. Also, Utah university and other universities have 5 stations.... the Horse tracks have their own broadcast singals...there are some stations selling carpets, do they really have the revenue to support 36,000 USD per month??....no way is the fee more than 3,000 USD per month to broadcast.
I can't wait to see SADOUN TV...
Just some thoughts....
