Wood or Gas Fireplace??? What is your preference??

Some say wood fireplaces are better than gas fireplaces. Others disagree.

If you like one or the other, tell us why?? or just make a story....

Don't forget to vote!

I really like the smell and crackle of a real wood fire. Unfortunately with my work load and my un/usual weekend schedule I would be staring into an empty hole most of the time. Plus I had to help split and gather firewood as a child. Kinda left a lasting impression of 'hard work' unfortunately.

1 vote for Wood! What a pity I own Gas.

When I bought my home it had gas logs, so that is what I use. Too much work to convert to wood fireplace. I love wood fireplaces though, they put out so much more heat than gas, gas is really just for entertainment--not very functional.

A few years ago, my father installed an Iron "traditonal" (it was new, but traditional style) wood stove. Their home is so warm and cozy with that real wood burning stove. At holidays my mother will actually cook on the wood stove instead of the kitchen electric stove....

Fireplaces

Living in Michgan's U.P., I feel well qualified to answer. (-10 today)

For HEAT. an airtight woodstove can't be beat. I use one as my primary heat source, with electric backup.

Any fireplace that doesn't have doors to make it airtight, will suck the heat right out of the house, and up the chimney.

If I just wanted an occaisional fire for mood, etc. I would get gas.
Much easier to handle.

Check out the fireplaces, stoves made by Vermont Castings. I have one, and it has served me well for 10 years. They make both gas & wood.

Jim
