Problem using Birdog to pick up T5
I got a problem installing a satellite dish to pick up T5 sat using my Birdog meter.
I'm able to find the sat but the quality signal is always 0(zero). I finished installing using a receiver to get the best signal and quality. After that i connected the Birdog to see if there was any difference and the result was the same no quality signal. Here is the hardware used: - 33" dish - standard linear lnb Your help is much appreciated. |

Try updating the datafile in your BIRDOG.

What firmware version is loaded into your Birdog? It will show up for a few seconds when you first power up the meter. kat

Hmmm... I have the same firmware version in one of my Birdogs and I get T5 just fine. When your meter beeps and says "Found" are you immediately pressing the "down arrow" button? That will indicate your signal quality.
If you still can't get it I would suggest reconfiguring the download file and reprogramming it into your Birdog. Make sure you download the correct version -- ie: there is a file for "standard" LNBs and another for "universal" LNBs; the "universal" files start with "U" and they are at the bottom of the pick list. I never use universal LNBs so I can't attest to whether or not the "universal" files even work. kat

Thanks bobkat for your reply.
I have downloaded new file last wednesday(mar 8) from birdog.tv and loaded it the same i have done in the past. I only use standard lnbs when i install new or replacement system. It is strange what's happening because all the other sats except 101W(for the RTP channel tp 12169H) do work well at least during the installations i have done. I have emailed Birdog complaining about it but i haven't got any answer. I would like to ask you if you can send me your file or post to test it with my meter. Thanks |

I have no idea how to retrieve the file from my meter. I guess I could configure a new file and email it to you. Tell me the sats you need. I got your email address, TY. Not sure what's up with the inbox being full in my PM; I just checked and there's only 7 messages. Another bug I suppose.

switch between H and V poliarity
i had this same problem where the birdoggie wasnt finding a signal with the meter but with my cheapo Microyal receiver, it worked like a champ. You can try doin this: switch between H and V polarity when you download the latest sat file. That seemed to work for me on occasions...

Now the signal on mine is up but Q always been low but they work fine real good tool for fine peaking in of a dish. but 1 peice of advise will give you is load all 4 types of lnbs for gal-25 Universal Vertical & Horizonal, an also load Standard lnb V & H, on the bird dog screen will come up KV & KH then for universal it shows UV & UH. Now when i peak a dish in always use the vert 1st alot stronger on Q on 75cm dish 30 to40 on Q on vert an on horz about 10 to 20 on Q. then switch birdog over to horz an go for the real fine tunning of the dish an lnb. an on 90cm dishes signal about 50 percent higher. hope all helps you out....1Captain

Birdog sucks
Ok so what i have found out the birdog company is not doing a very good
job in upgradeing there software,,, the software they have is mainly for hues and dish net. If you are trying to find telstar 5 or what is now called galaxy 25, your not going to find it with the birdog meter,, not unless there programer's get off there dead asssssss,,, and correct this problem, for the kind of money you have to spend for these meter's you would think they would have better support.. they do not answer emails. I too used to have the old software that showed tel-star 5 and it worked great,, and like a dummy i thought if i upgraded to the one that showed galaxy 25, i would be better off.. wrong. now i got a worthless peace of junk. |
