My bird dog does not display program mode

I have had my Birdog 2.5 for 2 and a half years, not used it very much, sent back for repair twice, one time it was the data cable, renewed cable and all was well, now I find myself with the same problem. Has anyone got a solution to this troublesome data cable, I would like to go with USB or is it just possible to go RJ45 from the birdog to rj45 on my computer or laptop, it would seem to take all the complications out but when I try it dont get program mode. Would appreciate any help, thanks

There is may few things. Mostly problem with data cable: it must be replaced, then take a look data port on meter body, clean up it with alcohol. Also may problem with computer set up. Ver 3 with USB works
much better.
