I am having a problem getting my Birdog to stay on. If I turn it on, it will power up, have the satellite 725 on the screen, when it goes to searching, it will right away say "shutting down" and turn off. I can also leave it for a couple days and it will have a dead battery even though it has not been used. I did just get a new battery for my meter also.
Now, I have opened it up and taken the flat cable from the circuit board to where it plugs into the board with the tuner. It will charge just fine and keep a charge, and it will turn on and stay on, just has an IC12 error or something like that. Once I plug the tuner part back in, it goes back to the immediate shut down again though. Any ideas on what the problem could be? I am desperate and can't afford a new meter right now. Thanks for the help in advance
Sounds like a power supply problem. Do you use a test cable that is permanently attached to the INPUT connector? If so, try taking it off and let the meter idle. Check the face of the INPUT connector to make sure no little strands of wire are shorting out center to ground. The IC2 error generally means low battery, very cold weather, splitter in the line or shorted out coax. The IC2 error is always followed by an immediate shutdown to avoid meter damage.
