NEW MUSLIM TV CHANNEL TO DEBUT IN SUMMER 2004
Muslim businessmen who are trying to launch the first English-language Muslim television channel in North America said on May 6 they hoped to have it on air in 2004. Bridges TV will emphasize news, sports, sitcoms, advice shows, children's programming and movies geared to American Muslims. Many of the 7 million Muslims in the United States and 1 million in Canada pay premiums for foreign television programming from networks such as al-Jazeera, ART, PTV and Zee TV in the
Arabic, Urdu and Hindi languages. The project is expected to be running by summer 2004.
