Cool satellite

Ahlan wa Sahlan

I am considering a satellite system but someone told me today that most of the good channels, including Al-Jazeera, you can't get on satellite TV that you pay a one time fee for. They said you have to pay monthly to get the good channels.

What channels can you get for a one-time fee nowadays? I am in California Los Angeles.

How much is it if I pay for them and what can I get?

I am not sure about satellite because I am not technically able to set something up and format and point to different star systems, etc.

Shukran,

STAN

Al Jazeera is FTA on a couple sats as for a one time fee haven't ever heard of this as most subscription channels are monthly, quarterly or yearly fees.it all depends on what you consider good channels if it's the cable channels then no you can't receive them with FTA systems. but if you want a variety of channels from around the world then give FTA a try its not as hard as it sounds.

so FTA means free to air? means that they are free once you buy the satellite system?

You don't need to buy anything else or pay anything else?

Thanks

That's correct. A word of caution is that there is no garantee that it will remain free to air. Satellites have a life of about 15 years. You can improve the number of channels you can receive by getting a motor. A stereo system attachment is also nice if you enjoy music.

Thanks again, sounds like a good deal.

Is it possible to take down the satellite and put it back up when you need it or is it a stationary thing.

Also can I add channels later via direct tv or something without having to pay to rent their satellite?

And lastly can I receive these channels from California?

Thanks again

YES, you can take it with you when you move.

NO, Direct TV signal is encrypted and uses a circular LNB. Don't ask this question again in this forum.

And lastly can I receive these channels from California?

YES, just make sure you have a clear view of the southern sky, part of the satellite arc.

Thanks again
There are numerous channels that are free that are interesting.

Just to update Rainman's comment, AlJazeera English is currently on Satellite G25 / 97.0W Tp 11998 20002 H 2/3 for free - no subscription required (at least for now).
