???? I'm also still getting the 11720 and 11800 muxes on G10r, so I'm confused. Are you guys talking about some other muxes, or were they gone and came back already ??

Other websites report that their muxes have returned. Seems like it was just an outage.

If I'm not mistaken, last night there was supposed to be a Moon Eclipse. Not sure at whether this has anything to do with lost signals or not.

Well the moon eclipse wouldn't have any effect. However, this is the solar outage period, and as mentioned over at satforums, even though it was at night, that can still be a factor, because during solar outage periods, in addition to there being times when the sun is directly behind the satellite during the day, there will also be times when the earth will block the satellite's view of the sun at night, ie an eclipse as far as the satellite is concerned. What this means is that for some period of time, the satellite may lose power from it's solar arrays, and will have to run off batteries. I would assume that they would have enough battery backup power to remain up, however it's possible that they just decided to use this eclipse period to power down and do some maintenance. Or it may be that the switchover to battery power didn't go well, and the transponder went down for a while, however unlikely that this would happen on both satellites. Anyway, it is possible that the solar eclipse might have been related in some way. Not likely though.

They were there when I scanned G-10R yesterday, around noon (MST). But, I've seen some outages before on their uplinks.

I have seen that uplink go dead before. I always just attributed it to a bad storm between me and the sat Had me a bit worried. As far as I can remember that is the only Univision provider out there on FTA.

Makes me wonder what happened at the various cities where these local channels go out over the air. Ie if I understand correctly (maybe not), these sat signals are what provides the signal to those local channels, not the other way around, so when those sat signals went down, I'd have to assume that the local channels went off the air??? That sounds like a pretty big deal, unless those channels are off the air at night anyway.

I am not sure about these FTA DVB MPEGII channels but "feeds" were always prior to actual programming on air. I kinda assumed the channels received were "feeds" but as I think a bit more on it they are actual programming complete with commercials so a very good question/point.

Before I really thought about it, I just assumed that these signals were produced at each city and being uplinked from there, however that can't be the case. The thing is, where else would they be going, other than *TO* those local cities. They can't be coming *FROM* those cities, because the uplink for each mux can only come from one site. My guess is that the local channels send advertisements by internet or mail, and the uplink site puts the programming together and sends the finished product to the local station so that all they have to do is feed it to their transmitter. Just a guess, but I can't think of another explanation.
I've never watched any of these channels long enough to see if they have any local news/weather on them. The weather is no problem, because there are organizations out there that produce weather for hundreds of different cities (there used to be a sat feed that one by one went through dozens of cities giving the weather forcast that would appear on their news). However, I'm not sure how they would add news to these feeds. So I'm curious whether anyone who watches these channels have noticed whether they have local news? We have a WB (CW) station around here, and they don't produce their own news/weather, but instead use the news from the local NBC station. Ie the same news crew that does the 11 PM NBC news also does the 10 PM CW news. But if that channel was one of these muxes (it's not), that 1/2 hour news slot would be blank on sat.
Interesting.
