The next best alternative to Euronews that I have seen is Newsworld International. It is on
C-band, Anik F1.
TP: 4100 Mhz
Pol: Vert
Symbol: 28346
I am picking it up with a four-foot solid prime-focus dish, a Chaparral C-band feedhorn, and an LNB made in the early 90s. Signal strength is 75% and quality is 99% on a Satcruiser 2040 receiver. Receiver location is northern Ohio. Anik F1 is a strong satellite, so even a four-foot dish is enough.
The feedforn uses a servo to rotate the dipole for polarity selection. The Satcruiser 2040 can drive this old type of polarity mechanism. If one is only interested in Newsworld, the feedhorn can simply be rotate to get the maximum signal strength, and the servo doesn't have to be driven by the receiver. Thus, any brand of receiver would work in that case.
Newsworld is based in Canada. They cover Canadian news and also show one-hour segments of Deutche Welle from Germany and the Japanese NHK news network throughout the day.
I'm not sure how long it will remain free. I've been watching it for a few months.
