Do you have a list of good C-band analog or digital channels... I wanna make use of my C-band dish while it's still working. heheh...

What sucks is that my remote for my C-band IRD is not working well and this receiver doesnt have enough buttons to make menu changes, etc.... such as changing sats.

I'll be swapping from direct tv to FTA system so I'm using the same coax cable . will I need any additional accessory to complete installation ? also I did not add the FREE KIT to my order , can I have it included in my order ? ordered on 01-04-07 ? thanks for your help..

Yeah, I know I can look at that C-band listing in lyngsat, but it's just spread out everywhere and many are out-of-date (shows listed date of various TPs in year 2003-2004??).... so I was hoping that someone had compiled a recent list in nice easy-to-read format.. hehehh.. d'oh.

There are still plenty of free channels on C Band BUT you need a 4DTV receiver to see them as much of C Band is gone or going digital. Once you learn how to use your receiver you will find even more channels out there.

I still have an old analogy receiver for my C-band dish... I've not gotten a 4DTV receiver, because when I asked about it a few years back the local sales guy said it'd goes $700.

Sheez.. that much for a 4DTV box? ANd how many free digital channels are there on C-band? Arent most channels (analog + digital) scrambled and require subscription? The only free ones left are wild feeds a some religious and shopping channels.. yeck! heheh..

Well I am not going to list what I have but I have many what would be considered premium channels for no sub and legal. There are "toys" in a 4dtv receiver. Once you learn how to use those "toys" you can get even more. Most all the channels bounce in and out of scrambled mode. Clear this month, scrambled next. The only things I sub to are Starz/Encore (24 channels) and Speed. One day I may go through and count the channels I have not counting feeds. The 4DTV channel availability has greatly grown since I first bought my receiver. Contrary to the never ending rumor that C Band/DCII is dead all I see is expansion.

If you're not interested in subscribing to the DCII channels, then in my opinion, the 4DTV is certainly not worth the investment. The free DCII channels can be received with other receivers that you can get cheaper on ebay, and the 4dtv "toys" that Steve refers to won't get you all the free channels that are available. Plus, despite the efforts of NPS to keep subscription C band alive, I really think there is little doubt that it's days are numbered. Every time I go to the satforums 4dtv forum, I see that some new channel is going away. The nps efforts are keeping it alive, but I don't think they can afford to do that indefinately with the subscription numbers going down. And now, with PBS largely switching to DVB, there is even less to watch with a 4dtv. Anyway, if you intend to subscribe to something, then sure, it will probably last long enough to make the investment worth it, but if you're going after free channels, then I sure wouldn't recommend that anyone invest in a 4dtv. That being said, the above suggestion that there is nothing to be found on C-band is just flat out wrong. If you have analog, (VCII), DCII and DVB capability, there is a heck of a lot on C-band. If it weren't for PBS, probably 80% of my viewing would be on C-band.

Yeah, I have no intention of subscribing to any C-band channels...

For me to even consider buy a 4dtv receiver would be:

1. price same as FTA prices, under $200.
2. must be enough free DCII channels that dont require subscription
(PS. is there a list or link that lists all free 4dtv channels?)

Currently I wish I could replace my current analog echostar 400 IRD because the remote is so flaky and pushing the buttons sometimes dont work so I can't change sats, etc.. so I keep it at one location. I heard a replacement remote for this guy would cost $80! d'oh. ... I am thinking of opening it up and cleaning the insides, because I know it's very sticky and glogged up all around with dirt and gunk. heh...
