| American TV Here you could discuss what is available as FTA American channels on satellite. No discussion of hacking encrypted channels or know how related to that matter is allowed. Discuss only channels that have been listed publicly on lyngsat. Non-public FTA channels should be discussed in the New Finds forum only. |

Found CBS Newspath feed and Macy's...
Hi,
I found a satellite with these two channels and a bunch of non-FTA channels.
Looking at Lyngsat, I cant find the corresponding satellite name/listing for what I am pointed at.. I should be between 97 and 91W...
Help...

You appear to be on IA6 at 93 west. I did a power scan there today and found 24 active feeds. Macy's was one of them, a few non-English feeds and I even found a remote that one of my local news channels was doing and a live feed from a Fox channel in Orlando, FL regarding a school stabbing.
If you want, I can provide a complete frequency listing that I found today, but, the two local news feeds are dark now. CBS is still there.

Oh, I see...
I was trying to get Nim1 at 91W. There are two FTA radios:
Radio Desjardins 981F
Radio Metro
that I want to get... The transponder shows L and R, instead of H and V... What does this mean?
I tried to aim to that direction but got 93W... hmmm... Can't I pick up 91W as I tried to go futher east on the dish , but it didnt get a signal. Are those two radio channels still active?

L and R means it's a circular sat will need a circular lnb to receive it.

I pick up the 12224 transponder on my BIG dish (linear LNB) every time I do a blind scan on G11, and it sometimes comes in on my 90cm. Again, because when trying to get circular polarization with a linear feed, it's a sometimes thing, and you may need to fool with the polarization a bit, and with a big dish you have variable polarity. So you MAY be able to lock that transponder with a linear LNBF, and you may be unsucessful.
However, I just looked at what channels are there today, and the channel list on that transponder is MUCH different from what is shown in Lyngsat. About half the channels are correct, but the other half are different channels, at least according to the SDT. I don't see ANY listing for the program numbers of those 2 audio channels. I do see 3 FTA audio streams however, one is the french audio for some channel called "CPAC", whatever that is, and the other two are listed as secondary english audio feeds for other channels. One is called TVLND, and listening to it, it IS TV-land, but it's a different schedule from the US version apparently. Right now I'm listening to Lassie, and I don't see that listed in the US TVLAND schedule at all.
THe other free audio is another secondary english audio for some channel listed as ISSUE. Don't have a clue on this, but it sounds like a Discovery type channel. Right not they are talking about some astronomer looking for black holes.
But these are the only 3 FTA audio streams on that transponder, so apparently those 2 radio stations are no longer there. At least not on that transponder. Perhaps on another transponder, but I doubt it.
EDIT: I just checked further, and found those two radios stations "listed" on another transponder (I think it was 12370), but encrypted. I say "listed" because there is very little data coming over the 2 streams, so I'm not positive there is really anything there.

So, what do I need to do if I want to get sats, where some have linear and others circular polarity?
Would I require to get that 4-port LNB that supports linear and circular polarity in one LNB that Sadoun sells for $69?
My only other choice is to buy a circular LNB and swap it out with my linear LNB everytime I switch sats?
Oh, and I do have a "BUD," from the old days, but its C-band only, so I cant get Ku on it... d'oh.

Since you said you had an un-used DTV dish, you could probably use that, or strap the LNB from that (if it's a small single dish one) onto one of your other dishes. I have one strapped onto the side of my BUD, which usually works OK, although it's not ideal.
Not much FTA to "watch" on the circular sats, although there is FTA to listen to.

Well, I took the LNB from my dtv dish and swapped it into my 80cm dish and now I can get circular sats. Then to get linear sats again, I have to swap out again. d'oh.. what a pain.
Are you saying I can duct tape the two LNBs side-by-side? How can that work? Does then LNB need to be directly "on-center" at the end of of the LNB arm? how can one be "to-the-side" and still receive all the signal it needs?

Yes strap the circular LNB at a side because signal is weaker from linear sats and you need to aim more precise at them. You will receive a signal from sat, 4 -6 degreeas apart on the OPPOSITE side of your new LNB, because dish reflects a signal not at a straight angle. For example, aim dish at 114°W, and you will receive a signal with your "right side" LNB from 110° Echo X, "right side" means when you stand behind dish and look at the sky.
I can post a picture, and Iceberg already has one on SatelliteGuys somewhere

yes or you can get a invacom QPH-031 lnb from Sadoun that does both circular and linear.
