Is G4 tech TV still FTA wildfeed?

When I first started looking around G4 techTV was C-band FTA.. I cant seem to get the Lynsat (sp?) site to work on my PC anymore (I don't really know why)

Im in cental KY and if it is availble I would also like to know what size dish would be needed to pick it up. (that and if its broadcasted DVB or DigiCyper II)
I seem to remember it depends on were you are in relation to the satillite and how many sattillites are near the one you want to recive channels as to how big the dish has to be. (aside from just the band information)

I will try to find this information again (I tryed earlier this week with no luck but I didnt try running IE instead of firefox)

thanks for any answers in advance.

Oh man should I have checked with internet exploer first! :mozilla_surprised: :mozilla_oops:

I got page to load up..

It is on AMC 10.. and its DVB incoded..

Oh greef.. do you need a regular satillite reciver to pick up reguar old NTSC encoding? I just noticed a few regular analog channels on that bird that look good and are FTA.

ok.. maybe I can ask this question in here.. should I try to get the recivers and a Ku dish just to get started? I might have access to a big old BUD dish that one of my freinds parents don't use anymore and once I can figure out were to point a dish to get good coverge maybe then assess the BUD situation (it would have to be in my back yard.. I dont have enough room in my front yard for a BUD my little spot to park my car would be consumed ROFL)

it is on amc 10 c band side tp freq.3954 sr 6656. it would need at least 6ft dish but would recommend 8 ft or larger.

Hay, rainmain.. how well do you pick these channels up (there is a G4, G4 East and G4 West)

And do you have a FTA reciver slaved to your BUD to pick it up?
Or do you not have a FTA reciver slaved to your BUD reciver and you don't get DVB Cband channels?

Whould you happen to know (or be able to look up) the EIRP of AMC 10 in KY?

I think its on this page
http://www.ses-americom.com/americom...s/cband/amc10/
but I cant seem to get it to load. (It seems to be hopeless with Firefox I'm trying with Internet Explorer)

nevermind.. half of these sites work with Firefox half work with IE on my computer.. Firefox loaded that one.. it happens to be 41 :P
the chart here
http://www.sadoun.com/Sat/Installation/Dish-Size.htm
tells me that a ERIP of 41 is VERY good to pick AMC 10 up in KY  the SMAT antenna size (less then 2.5 meters) is even reasonable (takeing in consideration a decent LNB is used)

very nice..

2.5 meters is a little over 8 feet. but when you are in the cable channel area of c band dishes g 10 to amc 7. you get alot of bleed over from the other sats on smaller dishes. so in this area of the arc bigger is better.

Ok.. I understood that part... :mozilla_laughing:
but the chart also says the DTH (direct to home?) antenna size is less then 1.9 meters. (somewere around 6 foot)

By cable channel area you mean the channels offered on cable?
"g 10 to amc 7" would be the satillites in the area that bleed over on to eachother if you dont have a big enough dish?
the area of the arc is diffent then the diamiter of the dish?
If I understand correctly its possible to have more arc in a dish design and still have the same diamiter, but Im guessing you were refering to the actuall # size of the dish.
Or is it the arc around the world in wich these sattlites orbit? LOL

at what arc size do you think would be a minium for our area of the contry for these Cband cable channel's (g 10 to amc 7) to keep from having poor picture quality?
Im trying to calculate an effective DTH size.. Bigger of course would be better.. but Id rather go with whats needed. :mozilla_undecided:

most experts recommend at least 8.5 ft dish. i have never tried anything smaller my self. have heard of others getting good signal with 6 ft dish in the analog mode don't know about digital.

well considering the chart was made for DVB FTA I would think that would be the size needed for such transmitions.. but of corse I dont know if it take's into consideration anything other then the EIRP, things like cross signal rejection needed.

thanks again rainman.. but were you trying to stear me to this area?
http://www.geo-orbit.org/sizepgs/eirporgcharts.htm
If so.. could you help me identify wich chart relates to Cband on AMC 10?
I have my guesses but thats all I have. :mozilla_tongue:

my guess from the charts DTH signal strength for AMC 10 would be 1.8m dish or 180cm. (considering the 41 EIRP (dBW) in this area)

it look's like you are reading it right that what i get is 1.8 meter or 5.9 feet or roughly 6 feet which is consider the smallest dish you can use for c band to receive a decent picture. =D>

At the same time 1.8m is biggest size that can get a lock on a 35 EIMP C-band signal (with some speckle).. acorrding to the chart you might be able to get some analog at 32 EIMP but that is a loss of signal for digital.

good stuff to know rainman.. now I need to go see what's availabe in C-band and what else I could catch with this size dish.

Well.. I woke up tonight and thought I would check out the EIRP of other C-band sattlites while I was up.

Galaxy 14, 15, AMC 7, 8, 10 and 11 have an EIRP of 41 in KY =D> \/ =D>

Wootness!! \/
