American TV Here you could discuss what is available as FTA American channels on satellite. No discussion of hacking encrypted channels or know how related to that matter is allowed. Discuss only channels that have been listed publicly on lyngsat. Non-public FTA channels should be discussed in the New Finds forum only.

Help needed to understand listing

My alma mater will televise their football game tomorrow and this is the listing. I have a 4DTV and Pansat 2500A system but am a real newbie to FTA. I think this game will be on G11 TR15 Ku but also FTA. What is FEC 3/4? Any help decoding this would be greatly appreciated. I missed the last game because I couldn't find the signal. Thanks. Tim.

Galaxy 11/ K15 9Mhz | Uplink 14312.500 | Downlink 12012.50 | FEC 3/4 SR 6.1489.

fec is foward error correction. If you are using a pansat 2500a you dont have to worry about fec because it adjusts it automatically. What you need to worry about is frequency, polarity, and symbol rate. SR is symbol rate.

Better yet.. since your pansat has a blind search, point your dish to galaxy 11 at the time of the broadcast and do a blind search, it will surely find to feed if it is a ku band FTA feed.

I don't think I have ever done a blind search, at least not that I know of. Is this something described in the manual (I don't have it handy at the moment) or is it easy to describe how to do it? Thanks again.

Here is how you do it:

press MENU
select "installation"

enter password (default is 0000)

select "smart search"

press the right-left arrow to select G11

press the down arrow to "polarity", press right arrow to "all"

press down arrow to "scan" and press right arrow to "FTA"

press OK

Go make some dinner, do a crossword, translate the Dead Sea Scrolls...

come back, and all active channels and transponders will be loaded. You should probably do this very close to game time as sports feeds aren't up very long pre-game. Good luck!

Thanks so much for your help. I got the game, though I did experience rain fade for much of the 3rd quarter and need to tune up my dish. This blind search is a nifty capability. I am very glad someone took the time to explain how to use it. It makes finding stuff much easier.

One last question, I bought my Panasat a while ago and I know that there have been satellite changes that are not reflected on my menus. I went looking for firmware updates but only found people trying to hack D/N. I only want to be able to get the latest satellites. Where can I find legal updates? Thanks again.
