Uon TV FTA channel starting July 2005 on IA5

What is UonTV? "aka YOU ON"

UonTV puts YOU ON TV !!! UonTV is a revolutionary new television channel that lets YOU be the TV programmer. For as little as $20, YOU can broadcast your video via satellite to millions of potential viewers, customers, and friends throughout the US. With UonTV, every little league game, barmitsfa, wedding, frat party, auction, or vacation video can be a televised event!

How does it work?
Up until now, only big corporations could afford to transmit their TV channels via satellite for reception by cable headends or direct-broadcast-satellite (DBS) viewers. However, by using the latest digital video broadcast (DVB) technology, UonTV can be transmitted for a fraction of the previous uplink cost and received on a satellite dish and set-top receiver costing less then $150. Millions of households worldwide currently receive their TV programming through DVB satellite broadcasts, and millions of people in the US already view religious, ethnic and news programs using the DVB system.

Thank you UonTV for considering Sadoun Satellite Sales as a main satellite TV equipment supplier for your upcoming TV station.

Nice information FAQ page there also:
http://www.uontv.com/faq.asp

A bit of copy/paste about what could be shown on that UonTV:

"What CAN’T I show on UonTV?

There’s not much, although we reserve the right to evaluate whether the content will get us in trouble with the FCC. Here are the guidelines we set up. Between 6am and 5pm is Grandma-time (Rated PG); if you can’t show it to your Grandma don’t show it on UonTV. 5pm to 10pm is primetime (Rated PG-13); show anything you’d show to your 13-year old kid or brother/sister. Between 10pm and 6am, show what you want except what could be considered porno, obscene or excessively violent. Check out the FCC website for the formal rules and definitions."

I read more about this, and this is too good to be true!! They will probably have a high demand and then theyll take advantage and up the prices..

anyway.. i think they will have some trouble with maybe people trying to spread their political agenda (like i want to do).. hopefully they will let anyone show ANYTHING (expect the usual pron, violence, etc)

Have you seen FSTV (free speach TV) on Dish Network? All kind of groups and points of views. Some you may agree with and some you may not. But, it is a Free country and Free speach is still protected as far as I know.

It is up to the station to accept or reject your material.

no, I have never seen FSTV, but I guarentee you that they probably censor a few groups. Groups that would make the eyes of Americans open up, but free speech will almost be gone I assure you. The unpatriotic patriot act is the first step.

FSTV is very much an ultra-liberal network. Anti-globalization, anti-war, green, etc. You won't find many shows approving of our current administration there.

This UON TV sounds, for the most part, very, very cool. How long it will last though makes me wonder.

We will be on Uon TV July 1st - July31 from 7PM-7:30PM EST daily.

What would you like to see folks?

This is happening too fast and we have to put some material together. Initially we will put some ads. I would like to devote sometime for DIY videos on how to install a dish and a motorized system. Any other ideas/request?

Yes, good idea, an explicative program about the different LNBs available on the market and others technical stuff about FTA will be interesting.

Dr. Z's Radiation Theatre

Hey folks,
I created a show called Dr.Z's Radiation Theatre for my local public access channel. I was a mad scientist who hosted old monster movies. I used public domain titles like, Night of the living Dead, Killer Shrews, The Brain that wouldn't Die, eyc. It was pretty funny.

Anybody interested in seeing something like this??

Let me know. Need some feedback.
Thankx :mozilla_sealed:

I hope this uonTV thing isn't going to be "The guy with the biggest wallet snaps up all the time and turns it into an infomercial channel" type thing. I hope they put somekind of limit on buying HUGE blocks of time to cram your commercials in. :mozilla_yell:
The Almighty dollar usually prevails but maybe in this case it won't.
Lets hope :mozilla_undecided:

Public Domain

I think you have a great idea. I have always thought it would be fun to have a satellite channel that plays nothing but Public Domain films and maybee some commentary.

I thought that some of the old government films, like the ones on the prelinger archive, would be fun too. Titles like: Reefer Madness, Winning the war with hemp, Duck and Cover--all of those have a humor all of their own.
