I simply want to receive some FTA radio. My question is - Must I bring in and listen to the signal through a tv or are there alternatives?..

I have a Mercury II receiver which has Audio output that you could run thru an audio receiver of some kind. But you would still need a TV on your receiver to see what you are doing.
