American TV Here you could discuss what is available as FTA American channels on satellite. No discussion of hacking encrypted channels or know how related to that matter is allowed. Discuss only channels that have been listed publicly on lyngsat. Non-public FTA channels should be discussed in the New Finds forum only.

Lightbulb New Satellite List

I have created a web site with a Satellite list which I hope is a much easier to read format. I don't have all of the American satellites in the database yet.

I would like some of you to look at the layout and give me feed back. Also if any of you would like to help maintain the listings, please e-mail me and I will set you up to be able to add, modify and delete satellites, transponder, and channels.

The url is Satellite List Log In/Home Page. The guest login is guest and password is cband.

Thanks,

As I see you are concentrating only on NA sats (which is fine as I am in IN) and since you are setting this up in a db how about setting up a search based on language? So if I wanted to find all the Portugese language channels they would be listed perhaps with a default sort of sat location from east to west.

Couple that with the option to search only C Band or only Ku or both. So I could search for all Spanish language channels on Ku. A search by channel name/network would be useful also. I could search for all the FOX channels. Once again coupled with band options I could narrow specifically based on my equipment. I could easily see there are no Galavision channels available instead of going through sat by sat.

I located a security issue. Some of the pages (using multiple templates) allowed me into main menu which as you are aware gives me edit power. I did not try to delete a sat I am just assuming I could have. I did not pay attention to what sats allowed it or if it was "after passing through so many pages".

Ok I am turning off suggestion mode

It actually looks pretty good..

Some satellites recently were renamed though...

For example - Intelsat Americas 5 is now Galaxy 25, etc....

Here is info about this:

and

I would like to see a thread started over in the New Finds section, where we can post suggestions, corrections, and finds that might be included. However I understand that mreaves53 hasn't been admitted to New Finds area yet?
Another issue though is the question of whether this list is to be public or private. Ie if it is public like Lyngsat, then things posted in New Finds, or things posted in the private areas over at Satforums shouldn't be put on the list. However if the list is made at least semi-private, ie perhaps protected by passwords only posted in the New Finds area (and the private areas at Satforums), then perhaps there wouldn't be a problem, or at least I don't anticipate a problem from those on the Sadoun forums.... I suspect it would still be considered a problem for some at Satforums, but I think there are ways that it could be done within the rules of both forums, ie if things are only listed by those who find the info, thus avoiding "re-posting".

However, while waiting for a thread in New Finds, I do have a couple questions. I was looking for example at the listing for AMC-11, and I can't figure out why the frequency colum is all messed up. Ie the frequencies don't seem to be correct (or at least they don't match what is in Lyngsat).
For example, Lyngsat shows transponders at 3980 and 3995. On this list, the 3980 transponder seems to show up at a variety of frequencies between 3980 and 3993. The 3995 transponder shows up here as a group of frequencies between 3995 and 4008. I'm not sure how this happened. It's almost as if there was an algolrithm used to generate the frequency, which added some interpolation value between that and the next frequency for each additional channel in the mux {just a wild guess}.
Also in one of the above examples, there is a so-called "FREE" DCII channels that is labled as DVB, when it is really a DCII "FP" signal, which are encrypted with a public key. Also, as mentioned in a private message, the VPID column is really the channel number (from vct) for DCII channels, and has nothing to do with video.
I also think there needs to be separate columns for the "HD" designation {and perhaps 4.2.2 could be included in this}, as it isn't possible to tell whether an HD channel is DVB or DCII or whether it is encrypted or not. Also, a comment column might be useful, to include other important features about the channel that might affect our ability to view it.
Also, I notice that DTV and Dishnet sats are lumped together at 110/119, but the DTV satellite at 101 is not listed. I also notice that some other satellites are not listed for some reason.

I wouldn't mind contributing to 97 West KU, by the way...

But i think this (among most other technical details) should be discussed in the section suggested above..

So maybe Mr. mreaves53 should apply for it, etc..

Cuz the idea in itself (with several people contributing to the chart, and having ability to enter, add, delete, change, etc on their own) has a potential of being very popular idea

He told me in an email that he has applied, but apparently admission to new finds has become a slow process. {Which isn't necessarily bad.}

Talking Suggestions

Thanks for all the suggestions. I have learned over the years, that I am good at making databases and website do things, but I have a hard time making them "pretty" or easily readable.

I have found the problem with the frequency numbers and corrected it. I have add several more types of encryption and will add a comment section very soon. I will color code the free and the scrambled channels and add a summary box at the bottom. I want to add a clean printer version also.

As soon as I get approved for the new finds, I will move the post and change the passwords.

Once again thanks for all your suggestions.

It may be that he got access but doesn't know it. Someone else recently thought he couldn't get in, but found that he could. Maybe when access is granted, there is no notice???
